TERMINOLOGY LAST DAYS (also latter days ) Generally used in Scripture to describe prophetically those days when God draws to a conclusion His working with a people, or nation Old Testament: Mostly refers to the consummation of God s working with Israel (Deuteronomy 31:29; Ezekiel 38:16; Hosea 3:5; Micah 4:1) New Testament: Usually refers to the end of God s dealings with the Church prior to the Lord s Return (James 5:3; I Peter 1:5; II Peter 3:3) APOSTASY Not a Bible word Commonly used to describe one who has fallen away from professing Christianity Someone who consciously decides to reject the truth he once professed to believe
EXPECTATION OF SIN (II Timothy 3:1-4) Sins that will escalate in the world prior to the Lord s Return Will also escalate among those who profess Christianity Four Thoughts which Sum Up these Sins: Lovers of Self (v 2) The Saviour said, Love one another as I have loved you (John 15:12) Lovers of Money (v 2) The love of money is the root of all evil (I Timothy 6:9) Lovers of Pleasure (v 4) He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man (Proverbs 21:17) She who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives (I Timothy 5:6) NOT Lovers of God (v 4) Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind strength (Mark 12:30) MY GREATEST LOVE IS __________?
EXPOSURE OF SHAM (II Timothy 3:5-9) having a form of godliness (v 5) their folly will be manifest to all (v 9) No Power Having a form of godliness but denying the power of it (v 5) No Satisfaction ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge (v 7) No Truth never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (v 7) so do these also resist the truth (v 8) No Life The Egyptian Magicians could not give life to the dust (Exodus 7-9) No Hiding their folly shall be manifest to all (v 9)
EXAMPLE OF THE SERVANT (II Timothy 3:10-12) His Teaching You have carefully followed my doctrine (v 10) Paul could say, like the Saviour, In secret have I said nothing (John 18:20) His Practice my manner of life (v 10) Walk worthy of the vocation to which you were called (Ephesians 4:1) His Purpose in Life my purpose (v 10) That I might finish my course with joy (Acts 20:24) That I might know Him (Philippians 3:10) For to me, to live is Christ (Philippians 1:21) His Faith my faith (v 10) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 1:21)
EXAMPLE OF THE SERVANT (II Timothy 3:10-12) His Love my love (v 10) The love of Christ constrains us (II Corinthians 5:14) His Patience my patience (longsuffering/endurance) (v 10) Love suffers long love endures all things (I Corinthians 13:4-7) His Persecutions my persecutions, afflictions which happened to me (v 11) All who desire to live godly in Christ will suffer persecution (v 12) His Deliverance out of them all the Lord delivered me (v 11) When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers they shall not overflow you; when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned (Isaiah 43:2)
EQUIPPED FOR SERVICE (II Timothy 3:13-17) Continue on the Course you have Begun Continue in the things you have learned and been assured of (v 14) Deepen your Knowledge of the Scriptures They are Provided by God All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (v 16) They are Profitable for the Believer and is profitable for DOCTRINE, for REPROOF, for CORRECTION, for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS (v 16) They will Prepare you for Service study to show yourself approved (2:15) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (v 17)
