  9. Part 2 Update to the 2010 Comprehensive Plan The State requires periodic updates to a county s adopted comprehensive plan. Update to the St. Mary s County Comprehensive Plan is due in 2023. The state scheduled the updates to for the 2020 Census data 2010 population 105,151 2020 population 113,777 Increase of 8,626 = 8.2% 9

Part 3 Comprehensive Plans and the Navy Each Comprehensive Plan has some mention of the Navy and County Navy coordination Before the base was called NAS Patuxent River, it is named Patuxent Naval Air Test Center in the 1967 plan. The base starts to be called NAS Patuxent River in the 1978 Comprehensive Plan AICUZ is mentioned for the first time in the 1978 Comprehensive Plan 13

Text Samples from the 2010 Comprehensive Plan The Home of a Premier Aircraft Testing and Evaluation Facility The overall economic development strategy for the County is to focus on core industries while encouraging business diversity. The first priority is to continue to support the strong defense economy that supports NAS Patuxent River. 14

  15. Vision 8. Economic development: Support semi-annual encroachment partnering meetings between the Navy and CSMC Existing facilities at NAS Patuxent River and Webster Field are protected from encroachment by development. 15

  16. To support the continued function and contributions of NAS Patuxent River the County is committed to: minimizing encroachment, improving schools, ensuring adequate housing, improving transportation, 16

To support the continued function and contributions of NAS Patuxent River the County is committed to: revitalizing Lexington Park, promoting international marketing, encouraging technology transfer and other forms of economic diversification, providing a range of lodging and conference facilities. 17

  18. Workforce expansion is vital: Public school system, Higher education, Attracting complimentary businesses: light manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, UAV manufacturing, technology transfer, commercialization of innovations. 18

  19. Transportation Support continuous improvement of transportation infrastructure within the County and regionally for access to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station and effective cross-county travel for residents. Support continuing efforts to address long- range replacement or reconstruction of the Thomas Johnson Bridge. Support alternative transportation including pedestrian and bicycle use 19
