Multicultural Greek Council Information for Greek Community Ambassadors Alex Young (Delta Lambda Phi), Council President
Goals of this Presentation Create a basic understanding of the reasons MGC organizations, as a whole, exist. Help you understand the general recruitment process of MGC organizations. Provide basic information on the diversity of membership and traditions within MGC.

Privilege To understand MGC organizations you need to understand privilege.
Privilege Creates Struggle Privilege creates an uphill battle for those without it. Hence, identity based organizations were created (MGC).
MGC Intake Process Various traditions Ritual and social celebrations Very, very community focused Start of semester 1-3 Weeks Informational Social events Excursions Ritual and welcoming social celebration Ending with a new member showcase New Member Induction New Member Education Recruitment Period Bid Initiation Extensions 6-10 Weeks Classes Projects Service events Opportunity to prove yourself Various traditions Immediately after recruitment events
Housing No official houses or facilities Unofficial houses do exist Members choosing to rent together Similar to satellite houses Community is the priority, not the physical structure

Events and Traditions Stepping, Strolling, Saluting Rhythmic, synchronized movement or dance to tell a story or express an idea. Some orgs only do one or not at all. Tied to intense pride in your identity.
Events and Traditions New Member Show/Probate A social event/ceremony presentation of and organization to the community.
Other Events and Traditions Meet the Greeks Biannual recruitment event for multicultural organizations. HIV Testing Drive Service event to provide free HIV testing for the community. Rent-a-Puppy Donate money to local animal shelters to play with a puppy. Literacy Week Week long event promoting literacy in school age children.
Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity On campus since: 2004 Focus: LGBT Community Strives to enhance the quality of life among Gay, Bisexual, and Progressive individuals
Delta Phi Lambda Sorority On campus since: 2014 Focus: Asian Community Advocates and empowers women to lead through values- based programs and everlasting sisterhood
Gamma Rho Lambda Sorority On campus since: 2014 Focus: LGBT Community Promote acceptance, diversity, unity, and trust. While providing a network of support and assistance for the community.
Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority On campus since: 2014 Focus: Latino/a Community Provide a sisterhood based on unity, love, leadership, female independency.
Lambda Theta Nu Sorority On campus since: 2007 Focus: Latino/a Community Foster Latina leaders through educational and professional development, relationship and community building.
Lambda Theta Phi Fraternity On campus since: 2011 Focus: Latino/a Community Moves to improve the Latino community through a culture of unity and brotherhood.
Pi Alpha Phi Fraternity On campus since: 2014 Focus: Asian Community Encourages mutual respect, trust, and loyalty among its members through the bonds of tradition, shared values, and unity.
Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity On campus since: 1992 Focus: Latino/a Community Nurture a dynamic based environment to serve the needs and wants of all people.
Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority On campus since: 2000 Focus: Latino/a Community Promote academic excellence and higher education for all women via dedication and sorority principles.
