Hello Year 2 Express Yourself! This week we re thinking about mindfulness. Creating artwork can help us to be calm and peaceful, especially in times when we re worried or upset. We re going to look at the work of French artist Sonia Delaunay. Her work shows movement in shapes.
Sonia Delaunay (November 14, 1885 December 5, 1979) She created her artwork by painting shapes and her designs were used to create fashionable clothes.
Were going to use a collage technique to create our Delaunay style artwork. You will need some coloured paper, scissors and glue. Begin by folding coloured paper and cutting a 2D shape on the fold of the paper. Cut out then fold the new shapes and cut out the centre. Now fold the cut out piece and cut again! Keep cutting into the shape to create smaller and smaller pieces of the same shape. Open each piece and reveal the 2D shapes you have made.
Use different coloured paper and different shapes to build up a collection of cut-out 2D shapes. You can cut rectangle strips too these will add connections in your collage.
Now arrange your cut-out shapes onto a piece of backing paper. Once you re happy with how the shapes look next to each other glue in place. The long strips can connect shapes by overlapping and layering. (Use scrap paper to glue to keep your work clean and tidy!)
Well done I hope youve peacefully and calmly enjoyed creating a collaged piece of artwork in the style of iconic artist Sonia Delaunay. Please send a photo to me via seesaw. Thank you Mrs Coulston
