1.  Availability of food grains
Buffer stock of food grains for one month is
available at schools.
Food grains are delivered at schools in time by
the lifting agency.
The food grains are of FAQ of Grade A quality.
Food grains are released to schools after
adjusting unspent balance of previous month.

Timely release of funds
UT e-transfers funds to account of  Principal of
Senior Higher Secondary School (Lead school)
in each island
All schools are permitted to make purchases
to the tune of their entitled amount of grant
Schools submit bills to Principal of Lead School
in the island every month.
No delay in making purchases for MDM.
Salary of cooks & helpers is paid by UT govt.

4.  Availability of Cook-cum-helpers
UT govt arranges for cooks & helpers for each school
Some are permanent & some are daily wage earners
They are paid according to UT norms
They are given cheques every month
All are Muslim and belong to ST social group.
No training module for cook-cum-helpers
Only one lady cook has received training
Health check-up is done for them periodically
No involvement of centralized kitchen or NGO
Teachers & students help to serve the food

5.  Regularity in Serving Meal
 Hot cooked meal is served to all students in the
schools at every noon.
6.  Quality & Quantity of Meal
Students are satisfied with quantity & quality of meals
Only dhal is the pulse used in meal & is adequate for
every student.
Fresh lefty vegetables are not available in islands.
Hence it is not provided.
Double fortified salt is used in cooking
Students are used to non-vegetarian meal at home.
Hence not all like vegetarian meal in schools
No school has standard gadget for measuring grains.

7.  Variety of Menu
Menu is decided by SMC.
Difficult to follow the menu; for everything
has to come from the mainland
Locally available Coconut oil & coconut power
are used in cooking
Menu provides for required nutritional &
calorific value per child
All schools have menu; but not displayed on
notice board. Only in Govt girls’ SS school,
menu appears in dining hall.

8.  Display of Information under Right to
Education Act, 2009 at the school level at
prominent place
This is not done in any school.  But in one
school, information about grants received by
school is given in the office of head teacher.

It is convergent with SSA & School Health
Programme
     (i)  School Health Programme:
Health Card is maintained for each student

ealth check-up is done once in a year
Children are given micronutrients & de-
worming medicine once in a week
PHC personals administer these medicines

Three referrals during the period of monitoring
There was no medical emergency during the
period of monitoring.
No first aid medical kit in schools;
but an ambulance is available at the Lead School
for all students in Island.
Dental and eye check-up is included in the
screening.

children.

schools;

13.  Safety & Hygiene:
It is in a safe & hygiene manner, the cooking takes
place in schools.
The children are encouraged to wash the hands
before & after eating.  One thing is sure that they
wash their hands & plate after eating.
The children sit in orderly manner to take meals
They do have the tendency to conserve water, for
it is scarce there.
Cooking process & storage of fuel are safe & not
posing any fire hazard.

14. Community Participation
Schools are very much in the midst of the
community.
Some of parents & SMC members visit school
daily.
No roster of community members supervising
MDM
Social audit is very much functioning
Two to three SMC meetings have been held.
Further the SMC members meet in school quite
often informally
Issues relating to MDM are discussed in all SMC
meets; for all food items come from the mainland

Inspection & Supervision
Inspection Register is available  in schools
Schools have not received funds under MME
component.
MDM in the school is being inspected by CRC
and BRC coordinators and UT officials.

It is difficult to identify the impact, for MDM
was there much before 2000 AD.
