Maths Frog subtraction

WALT: to revise using maths frog and a
number line to subtract

Watch the video on Abacus: 3.19 counting up
(frog tool) to find a difference
We have used Maths frog before but usually
with numbers below 100.
As you get more confident you can begin to
use fewer and bigger jumps.

Maths frog says:

Always start with the baby number
Jump to the next 10 (stick to this but after the
first jump you can try bigger jumps: eg to 100 )
Always fill in the mini-target number under
the number line then do the jump.
Add up your jumps to find the total.
Also keep it tidy so you can see the jumps and
numbers clearly

Example:

182 – 158 =

    ___________________________________
158

182

    ___________________________________
158

160

180

182
2 + 20 + 2 = 24

Use Frog to answer these questions:

1.
182 – 148 =
2.
155 – 166 =
3.
163 – 127 =
4.
171 – 138 =
5.
144 – 119 =
6.
182 – 145 =
7.
191 – 167 =
8.
164 – 136 =
9.
182 – 157 =
10.
193 – 166 =
11.
121 – 94 =
12.
113 – 88 =
13.
111 – 76 =

Think: if the answer is 35, what
could the question have been?

Challenge:
Start at number 7
Also try to use as few
jumps as possible after the
first one to the next 10.
