Mary Kay was born May 12, 1918, in Hot
Wells, Texas.
She started her own cosmetics company,
using incentive programs and other strategies
to give her employees the chance to benefit
from their achievements.
She died November 22, 2001 of natural
causes.
Mary Kay was the daughter of Edward
Alexander and Lula Wagner.
Mary Kay attended Dow Elementary School
and 
Reagan High School
 in Houston, Texas
and she graduated in 1934.
Mary Kay married Ben Rogers at age 17. They
had three children named 
Richard, Ben and
Marylyn.
Her first marriage ended in divorce, the
second marriage ended when her husband
died of a heart attack and her last marriage
lasted until her death.
 
Her first job was going door to door selling
books.
Mary Kay went to work for Stanley Home
Products after her first divorce. She quit due
to being frustrated when passed over for a
promotion in favor of a man that she had
trained.
She then later wrote a book to assist women
in business.
She started her cosmetic line with her
second husband, George Hallenbeck.
The company started its original storefront
operation in Dallas, Texas.
She became a member of the Business Hall of
Fame in 1996.
She was named one of “America’s 25 Most
Influential Women,” 
The World Almanac and
Book of Facts 
in 1985.
A&E Television produced “Mary Kay” which
aired on the Biography Channel in 2006.
She was also named“Most Outstanding
Woman in Business in the 20th
Century.”  Lifetime Television in 1999.
