  1. SEP Silver Cord Volunteer Opportunities Hours earned during the school year are due by the end of the semester in which they were earned. Hours earned during the summer are due by September 15th These are opportunities that we are made aware of by local organizations. Students are not limited to just these opportunities.

SEPTEMBER World Food & Musical Festival - 17-19th Altoona Christian Church - Caring Hands Pop Up Rummage - 23rd/24th/25th 2021 Ames Grand Prix - 18th/19th Celebrates food, music, heritage and culture from around the world. Located at Western Gateway Park. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs all three days. You must be 16 years old. There are a variety of positions available and no prior experience is necessary. Volunteers will be provided with refreshments. ONGOING Iowa Genealogical Society Book Buddy October through April Des Moines Children s Museum Projects include: 1)Putting donation slips into books and materials that have been donated 2)Checking catalog to see if donated books are duplicates 3)Scanning obituaries into a database 4)Camp Dodge draft cards (requires knowledge of Excel spreadsheets) The DSM Children s Museum is always looking for volunteers. They have volunteer needs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are also plenty of volunteer opportunities over school breaks to volunteer. As a nonprofit we are striving to provide an affordable place for families to go and keep our costs down with your help. Reading sessions run from 9:30am - 10:00am on weekdays Book Buddy reaches children in the critical year before kindergarten, helping them build the pre-reading skills they need for a strong start in school. Mitchellville Public Library Clay Elementary PTA - Monthly Delaware Elementary PTA - Monthly The Mitchellville Library is looking for volunteers to: - Read children s books for virtual story time - Help get crafts ready for programs - Help with current and summer programs - Working in the library, shelving books Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during their monthly PTA meetings. Volunteers are needed for the hours of 6-8pm. Meetings are held in the Clay Elementary library and childcare will be in the cafeteria. Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during their monthly meetings (1st Tuesday of each month) as well as assist with clean up from children playing.
