In order for us to find solutions that will ensure our relevance as a profession and indeed as individual professionals we must mentally migrate from the old approach of things staying constant and develop the ability to think in an integrative manner. We must process the complexities with face by looking at alternative solutions, pick up their positives and come up with a fresh solution with all incorporate their positives. To understand and contextualise the 4IR is a good premise from which we can start to leverage on ethics. It is further important to understand that ethics are not an end but a means to an end. To try and address ethical matters without an integrative approach will result in the neglect of weightier matters of human endeavour. Occurring simultaneously are waves of further breakthroughs in areas ranging from gene sequencing to nanotechnology, from renewables to quantum computing. This complexity of things (interconnection of things) then elevates the matter of ethics to the level of morality. It must be looked at in an integrative manner. What may be economically good may be medically harmful, what is medically good may be environmentally harmful. All must be taken into account when leveraging ethics.
