Learning Obedience Hebrews 5:5-10; John 12:20-33
1. Jesus Christ, Our Example of Humilty Hebrews 5:4-5 NLT And no one can become a high priest simply because he wants such an honor. He must be called by God for this work, just as Aaron was. That is why Christ did not honor himself by assuming he could become High Priest. No, he was chosen by God.
Humility Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less -C S Lewis-
Philippians 2:3-8 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
1. Jesus Christ, Our Example of Humility 1. emptied himself 'Although he was a son' 2. obedient to the point of death 'he learned obedience through what he suffered'
2. Jesus Christ, Our Lord Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him. John 12:25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever loses his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Mark 8:35 (NLT) If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if your give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
2. Jesus Christ, Our Lord John 12:26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will him.
And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him. Hebrews 5:9
