  2. AS A POINT OF DEPARTURE. Firstly, I need to declare that I am not an academic. Nor have I studied any of the social sciences or human behavioural fields such as psychology. Nor have I gone down the MBA route. I am a dyed-in-the-wool mining engineer with a master s degree in engineering science. However, what I do have, and what I want to share, is over 30 years experience working with leading people leading people, which is often a far more variable and volatile commodity than the mineral that I was trying to mine! working with, managing managing and (Matt Gill, 2017: Risk why do people do what they do? Conclusion A low hanging fruit for HE institutions: Existence of robust internal control systems However, the ecosystem of procurement in HE should consider the human element as potential risks in the procurement process Risk exist throughout the procurement process Thus, a holistic approach for risk mitigation & corruption is needed.
