Lawrence Green Fleet Electrification Project Overview
Lawrence, in partnership with Metropolitan Energy Center and Energetics, is embarking on a fleet electrification project to combat transportation emissions and transition its vehicle fleet to renewable energy sources. The project involves conducting fleet analyses, creating a replacement plan, and evaluating facility and vehicle inventory to achieve municipal renewable energy goals. Metropolitan Energy Center has been transforming energy use in America's Heartland since 1983 and collaborates with Energetics to integrate clean energy technologies effectively.

Lawrence Green Fleet Discovery Meeting METROPOLITAN ENERGY CENTER, CITY OF LAWRENCE & ENERGETICS 1 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
Lawrence Fleet Electrification This goal will help combat transportation emissions which are the number one contributor to greenhouse gases in the U.S and pose a health hazard to those who have repeated exposure. The City of Lawrence recently passed Ordinance NO. 9744, which established municipal and community-wide renewable energy goals for the city. Fleet electrification can be a tricky process, and this is why it is important to create a plan with technology experts. 2 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
Metropolitan Energy Center & Energetics Metropolitan Energy Center (MEC), in partnership with Energetics Incorporated is providing a comprehensive evaluation to transition the city s vehicle and equipment fleet to 100% renewable and alternative energy. The analysis will be conducted as part of the passage of Ordinance NO. 9744. 3 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
Metropolitan Energy Center & Energetics Energetics is a clean energy consultancy that collaboratively works with state and local entities to help smartly, and cost effectively integrate clean energy technologies and strategies into their real-world fleet, charging, and facility operations. MEC conducts fleet analyses through their Mid-America Green Fleets Program. One goal of the program is to improve the environmental performance of local government vehicle fleets across the region. 4 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
Purpose of Electrification The city of Lawrence is conducting a fleet analysis with Metropolitan Energy Center to develop a fleet replacement plan. This process will explore all aspects of fleet operations, with the end goal of transitioning the current fleet to a renewable energy source. Project Plan for City of Lawrence 1: Facility Evaluation 2: City Vehicle Inventory Evaluation 3: Risk Analysis 4: Cost Analysis and Deployment Plan 6 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
1: Facility Evaluation Energetics and MEC are collecting data to assess the city of Lawrence s current fleet and provide recommendations based off the data. A data specialist at MEC is evaluating sites, and site visits will be conducted as needed to help assess facilities. This data will help identify deficiencies, regulatory constrictions and prepare an estimated cost of infrastructure needs. Energetics will prepare an evaluation summary of each facility in the project scope, including the projected cost of fueling infrastructure and necessary upgrades. 7 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
2: City Vehicle Inventory Evaluation Energetics will: Prepare a city vehicle inventory evaluation and identify target vehicles for EV or alternative fuel scenarios. Prepare vehicle procurement and replacement schedules based on life cycle and cost-benefit analysis. Provide fueling infrastructure recommendations and a cost assessment to support City fleet operations. Recommendations of alternatives must enhance City operations while ensuring uninterrupted service to the community. 8 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
3: Risk Analysis MEC will conduct end user meetings and provide follow up questions Review compiled zoning and regulatory compliance considerations Perform risk analysis of service interruptions by type of alternative. Identify risk of alternative by market, weather events, and technological. Identify risks associated with transitions to EV units for public safety and core services. Identify deployment risk in emergency events. 9 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
4: Cost Analysis and Deployment Plan We will: Provide a recommended, phased, deployment plan based on industry projected practices and budget considerations to include rate of return assessment. Provide recommendations, classified by short, medium and long-term. Resolve any issues or concerns that arise with the deployment plan. 10 Metropolitan Energy Center transforming energy use in America s Heartland since 1983
