  1. Scholarship Program 2021

  2. Open to all graduating seniors and certificated staff of Lake Washington School District schools. Two $500 staff scholarships and fourteen $1250 student scholarships for a total of $18,500. Judging panels are made up of teams across all Learning Communities in the district. Our 21 judges read and scored 82 scholarship applications. Scholarship funds are provided by: Annual donations from the 44 PTAs in LWSD Council s annual Scholarship Auction Private donors, like the Lake Washington Education Association We are honored to be a small part of this tremendous milestone in the lives of these exceptional students, and we wish them all the very best. Staff Scholarship Sidney Minter (Mark Twain Elementary) Has a Bachelor s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Special Education from the University of North Texas Passionate to dive deeper into reading interventions and assist kids with dyslexia or other disorders of reading and writing Aspires to make reading more joyful for the kids Will attend Texas A&M s Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program

  5. Staff Scholarship Michelle Shaw (Juanita and Redmond LC s) Teacher for students with vision impairments Has been a general and special educator for many years in various classroom settings Passionate in the special education world for 30 years and has initiated many community events that brought families together Has been a race director for the Can Do 5K , a race that celebrates individuals with disabilities Attending Perkins School for the Blind, to expand her knowledge on CVI (Cortical Vision Impairment)

Perseverance Scholarship Isabel Akdeniz (LWHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School President of Beta Club, Senior Class Vice President, and an active member of DECA, HOSA, and many other clubs Highly passionate in dancing and dances with Elizabeth s Dance Dimensions Recipient of Full Dupree Dance Scholarship - 2020 Will be attending University of Washington

Perseverance Scholarship Ksenia Sokolovskaya (JHS) Attended Kirkland Middle and Juanita High Won several Math and Linguistics awards Completed 6 years of music (plays fortepiano) Inspired toward the medical field by aunt who was a nurse at Children s Hospital and who now cares for seniors at a nursing home Volunteers at a local center for Russian-speaking families Will be attending the University of Washington (Bothell)

  8. Turnaround Scholarship Padget Callan (EHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Served in Dominican Republic Learned about the local food, music and culture Built a garden and painted a sports court Worked at a preschool throughout the pandemic, helping children learn and assisting the teaching staff Received several Certificates of Accomplishment for outstanding grades Will be attending Washington State University

LWEA/Teeley Scholarship Keilani Crespi (JHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Has been part of Girls Swim team (Co-Captain in 2019) and Choir at Juanita High School Member of the LWSD Instructional Materials Committee Works as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and swim team coach Has a great passion for teaching Will be attending Central Washington University

  10. L.E. Scarr Scholarship Lance Martin (RHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School 4 year member of RHS Boys Swim Team Participated in the Wanic Fite Fire program and loved the EMT training and firefighting activities Helped the community through serving the homeless and through Boy Scout service projects Successful entrepreneur, running his own Lancescaping Yard Services Will be attending Bridgerland Technical School

Eastlake LC Merit Scholarship Daniel Dickman (EHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Elected President of Eastlake s Math Honor Society and first EHS student to qualify for the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad Played on the Eastlake Varsity Basketball Team and JV Tennis Team National Merit Finalist & U.S Presidential Scholars Program candidate Will be attending Harvard University

Eastlake LC Merit Scholarship Fiona Wang, Cambridge Program (JHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Co-founded an organization called Awareness for Homelessness Was part of JHS Girls Swim team and attended HOSA State leadership conferences Earned Cambridge Scholar award with distinction Will be attending University of Washington

Juanita LC Merit Scholarship Brayden Brackett (Tesla STEM) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Has been the head of Tesla s STEM Reach club, Captain of JHS Tennis Team, and teacher for the Harvard Wave Learning Festival Held leadership positions for the City of Kirkland and WA State Technology Student Association Participating and leading in these roles has helped Brayden with his internships and to have far-reaching impacts across the nation through Stem outreach programs Will be attending Purdue University

  14. Juanita LC Merit Scholarship Ritika Managuli (ICS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Directed two plays for the ICS Drama club, went to State for Poetry Out Loud and to Nationals for the Leadership Speech Competition Member of Juanita Varsity Swim Team, Captain for Juanita Bees Soccer Team, and danced with BollyBeats, a local dance club Created Volunticity , an online platform that finds volunteer organizations for ages 12-17 Will be attending Indiana University Kelley School of Business

Lake Washington LC Merit Scholarship Huong (Kelly) Tran (LWHS) Attended Rose Hill Middle School and Lake Washington High School Co-founded her school s HOSA club and is currently serving as President Member of Model UN, Drumline, School Jazz Band and few other clubs Works as an instructor at Mathnasium and a private tutor for Vietnamese American kids Will be attending UCLA

  16. Lake Washington LC Merit Scholarship Jasmine Yang, Cambridge (JHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Participated in Model UN, club President for DECA and an international qualifier in Personal Finance Literacy Participates in Cross Country & Track and Field Won numerous award including Cambridge Scholar Award and National Merit Commendation Will be attending Smith College

  17. Redmond LC Merit Scholarship Trisha Beher (RHS) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Initiated a national initiative to support seniors through her non-profit, The Art Shine foundation President of Knowledge Bowl, Feminism Club, and Model UN Club Strong advocate for gender equality and spreading awareness on mental health, feminism, and education in her community Will be attending Cornell University

  18. Redmond LC Merit Scholarship Varun Wescott (Tesla STEM) Student of LWSD from Elementary to High School Served two terms as ASB President at STEM and started district wide ASB council for all LWSD High Schools Enjoyed casting eSports competitions and participated in hackathons with his team Created CODE 66 , a platform to teach Computer Science to underserved youth Won numerous awards at the state level for Computer Science and FBLA topics Will be attending Dartmouth University

  20. We thank the following for your support! All 44 local PTSAs who every year contribute to the Scholarship Program with donations and gift baskets for the fall Basket Auction. The high school college and career specialists and counselors. Jan and Harold Stone for their contribution that allowed us to offer a 2nd Perseverance award this year. This year s Scholarship auction Chairs, Melissa Stone, Stacy Hatch, Christine Bergstein, Steph St. Jean and Diane Devlyne-Thompson. The Lake Washington Education Association for their generous donation to this program. The LWSD for their continued support of this annual event.
