USE THE INFORMATION IN THE ADVERT TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS Mr Gibbison s guidance; Starter sentence: when I am looking for jobs and find one that I like, I then need to look for certain bits of information. Points to consider when reading adverts are explained below . -Job description /specification- what exactly will you be doing on a day-to day basis? What qualifications/experience are needed? Who will I be working with? -Company or organisation job role is with- Who will you be working for? What is your job title? Where and when will you be working? Full time or part time? Number of hours? -Skills and knowledge required What skills and knowledge are they asking for to be able to complete the job? -Progression available- can you change job roles with success and improved experience? Pay rise? Salary? -Consideration of own suitability and identification of own strengths and weaknesses- are you suitable for the job? Does it excite you? Have you go the necessary skills? +Any additional information you can tell about the job? Role? Company? Mr Gibbison s example answer: If I was successful at getting this job at the water sports centre, as part of being employed by the company I would be free use of the facilities before or after my shift has finished. The company has said they will send me on training courses but have made it clear that progression into other jobs is unlikely. I have asked that I keep a good level of personal appearance by wearing the correct uniform and always treat customers with a professional attitude.

  9. Work to be completed in the afternoon on MONDAY 4thMAY (slides 1-8)

  11. LO3- Producing a personal career plan

  12. LO3: LO3: Applying for jobs within the sports industry Your task is to: - identify sources of information relating to job vacancies in the sports industry and research a specific job role - create an appropriate CV for the job role in the sports industry in which you have identified - prepare for a possible interview - produce a personal career plan. You can present your work in any format (i.e PowerPoint, report, spreadsheet, notes)

  13. Career plan Career plan- - some jobs will require experience and qualifications to be gained. Therefore you may need a career plan to ensure you get your dream job. Task- identify a job within the sports industry that you would like. (e.g to become a PE teacher, receptionist at a gym, Rugby coach etc) **tip: use the job you have been doing your CV/cover letter for** Questions: What SMART targets would be needed? What do you want to achieve? What skills are you missing/training would you need?

  14. Task-create a career plan for your chosen job Mr Gibbison s example (you can copy this short sentence): My career plan for becoming a .(e.g PE teacher) when I am older is listed below. As part of this plan I will need to assess how its going every few weeks and make changes if needed to the plans. This is a live document that I can keep adding too or changing as required Year What do I hope to achieve (aim) Missing skills/training needed to achieve the aim SMART targets 1 ? To become a PE teacher I will need a CRB check so I will need to get that done if I want to work with children as soon as possible. I will also need to complete numeracy and literacy tests too. Therefore I will need additional support with my literacy before I complete the test. ? 2 Go to West Notts college and continue with my studies. I would aim to focus on studying PE, Maths and Art- as these are subjects I enjoy. PE is obviously the most important one in terms of my career plan. To gain experience I will help out in a local school one afternoon a week and continue to play a range of sports myself, such as; swimming and football. I will aim to get as much coaching experience as I can ? ? 3 ? ? This target is specific as I have identified a particular course to attend to gain a qualification. The aim is measurable as I should pass the course and get a certificate. It is realistic as this course is available all year and I already have good knowledge linked to the sport.

  15. Task and tips 1) Ensure all boxes are complete and link .(aim> missing training/skills> SMART targets) 2) Ideas for aims .(Gain suitable GCSE s, go to university, work abroad to gain experience, ensure I work out 5 times a week, complete a first aid qualifications, work alongside other professionals) 3) Use the internet and me for help 4) Detail is the difference between a good (distinction) and poor (pass) answer 5) Electronic or hand written is fine (but keep it safe!) 6) It is vital you create your own work! 7) Email me if you need help

This is done face-to-face, through tests/trials and even over the phone. The important thing to remember about interviews is . fail to prepare, prepare to fail

  22. Preparing for interview 4 stages to follow when preparing for interview. (We are going to look at the green sections) 1. Prepare answers for common interview questions (not just associated with jobs in the sports industry) common questions will be asked at every interview and therefore its useful to have some answers/ideas already prepared. Questions: what qualities do you have to suit this job? Why do you want to work for this company? 2. Consider research about the specific role/job- show that you are interested in the company/job/role and have done some prior research. This will show you are serious about the job. Example: I have spoken to people who have worked for your company before and they say it is an excellent company to work for . 3. Prepare for assessment tasks (i.e do you need to present/role play/complete a trial?) does it say what will be included on the day of the interview? 4. Prepare your own questions- this is your chance to find out more Questions: would I get any additional training? When would my start date be?

  23. Task- get yourself prepared for an interview **Your teacher may complete a real life interview with you- so be prepared** Task- using for 4 stages for interview preparation- evidence that you are ready. Mr Gibbison s guidance/advice: 1. Prepare answers for common interview questions- create a minimum of 5 common questions and potential answers (write them out) (ask for help with questions if you need too) Mr Gibbison s example: Q: Why do you want to work in our organisation? A: Because I want to work as receptionist for a large company that is passionate about water sports and feel that your company is experienced, professional and would provide this opportunity that I am looking for. You also talk about training staff correctly and this is something I am passionate about. 4. Prepare your own questions- create a minimum of 5 questions you would aim to ask whoever is interviewing you (ideas: what training will I get? What is the pay?). Try and think of some difficult questions or things you would really want to know .

  24. Task and tips 1) You need a minimum of 5 for each part of the task 2) You can do more (but no more than 8) 3) Use the internet/your parent/me for help 4) Detail is the difference between a good (distinction) and poor (pass) answer 5) Electronic or hand written is fine (but keep it safe!) 6) It is vital you create your own work! 7) Email me if you need help

A cover letter should make it clear which job the CV is for and include the job title and any reference that has been given for it. Basically, a cover letter should help your potential employer to direct your application appropriately. When your CV is sent in, the professional courtesy of sending it with a cover letter is standard practise.

This gave me a general overview and increased my knowledge of sport. The course involved theory lessons covering topics such as the body during sport and key muscles used. I also had to perform in a range of different sports. My main sports that I play are; Football, Cricket and Swimming. (you can highlight your main sports they you play). I then progressed onto studying Sports at A-Level and then went to the University of Bedfordshire to study Health and Nutrition. (link your progressions/qualifications to the job. E.g. nutrition). Going to university provided with the opportunity to develop my knowledge in nutrition and experience working in busy kitchens. I also worked at Derby hospital in their nutrition department too. Whilst studying to become a nutritionist, I also volunteered to work at a summer school, teaching children between 4-10 a range of sports each summer (make reference to some past experiences/you may have covered some in your CV already). I regularly take part in swimming all year around and cricket. Throughout my sporting career, I have regularly been the captain of the team. I see myself as a good communicator, an excellent team player but also as someone who can work as an individual. I am also competent using ICT and have good people skills. I love being involved in nutrition linked to professional athletes. I have previously worked for Mansfield Town FC in a similar position and am now looking for a more challenging job. I love having an impact on others. I feel that I am very successful in health and nutrition.
