  2. Meaning of Sociology Sociology is a systematic study of facts and principles as they apply to human relationships amongst people. OR Sociology is the study of human relations.

Meaning of Sports sociology Sports sociology is a sports science that studies , understands and the analyses social aspect of the behaviour of people like athletes, officials, fans, spectators, or administrators in different settings such as learning, practice, training, competition and of course in general life.

  4. DEFINITIONS According to WARD Sociology is a scientific study of society. According to GILIN & GILIN Sociology is the science of social groups .. A social group is a system of social interactions. According to MAC IVER & PAGE Sociology is about social relationship, the network of relationship, We call society.

  5. AREAS OF SPORT SOCIOLOGY Social systems (such as family, peer groups, school and community). Participation in activities and sports program as a social necessity / obligation for enjoyment and excellence. Relative influence of significant others e.g. parents, teachers, coaches, friends etc. Socio-economic status, residence(rural or programme, culture etc. Athlete identity Group dynamics, team choices and the factors and forces determining them. age, place of of urban),type sport

IMPORTANCE OF SPORT SOCIOLOGY o Helps in changing the outlook of people. o Sociology helps in developing sports ethics. o Helps in making a good discipline. o Helps in the attainment of leaderships qualities. o Helpful in solving various problems. o Helpful in getting knowledge about sports persons. o Helpful in adjustment.

Helps to evaluate and accept or reject social customs, religious formalities, traditions, standard of behaviour, value of education without which society cannot exist and progress. Actual socialization takes to place and begin to give shape to the character and personality of a child when he plays with and among his neighborhood friends and school peers, tries to dominate or be dominated in different play situations.
