Interactive Poetry Writing Workshop for Kids

Poetry
Week 2

Last week you looked at onomatopoeia. Can you remember
what it is?

Using the online timer, see how many examples of
onomatopoeia you can write down in a minute!

https://www.online-stopwatch.com/bomb-countdown/

Now listen to Roger McGough performing his
poem “The Sound Collector”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zc6qxnb

Now you are going to have a go at writing your own version of
the “Sound Collector”.

First, you need to decide where you are going to collect your
sounds. Choose from the following settings (or perhaps you
can think of your own setting).

1)
Football match
2)
School playground
3)
Zoo
4)
Kitchen
5)
Rainforest

Next, on a piece of paper, write down all the sounds the sound
collector might collect from your setting…

Finally, add your own verse! Add as many as you like. Write your
poem on a piece of paper (using your best handwriting of course!)
and perform your poem to your family.
