Introduction Understanding gender and development issues Global female population:49.58% Liberia s female population 49.7% Agriculture make up 70% of Liberia s labor force out of which Women constitute 75% Women make up 54% of the labor force in formal and informal sectors. Women are disproportionately represented in low- skilled, low-paying jobs and the wage gap between male and female persist
Understanding gender and development issues Fewer women in leadership positions eg. Less than 13% in Legislature Literacy among adult women is far lower (41%) than for men (70%) School completion rate is lower among girls than boys
National Development Landscape National plan (Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development) Gender Annual Budgets Sector plans and strategies Local plans Each plan considers gender issues
National Development Landscape 375,000 women to be empowered across the 15 counties over the next 5 years PAPD Promotion of gender equitable socio- economic development and improve national capacities for enhanced gender mainstreaming in the national development process NGP
Progress thus far Crafting of annual budgets with consideration to social protection including gender Support to Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection Inclusion
Way Forward Integrating and promoting gender equality in every institution financing, panning and policy. Making country national budget a gender sensitive, when preparing the budget. Creating programmed to promote and reducing gender unbalance and gender inequalities in the decision make processes at the national level
