Assistant Principal Heather Parkerson Registration Timeline Registration Form Front- Teacher Recommendations for Core Classes Back- Elective Requests by Parents Turn in completed form to the 8thGrade Homeroom Teacher on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Before Spring Break, check courses and request changes on the Course Verification Form. Last day for course request changes is May 29th.

  6. Assistant Principal Heather Parkerson Consider the teacher s course recommendation. Carnegie Units Students can earn a P for passing both semesters of an eligible class. There is no impact on the high school GPA, but there is an impact on course registration. The decision can have major implications in high school, especially in Math. (If you take the unit, student cannot repeat the course.) Colleges still want to see 4 years of a subject while in high school. Information Session: Monday, May 18 at 6:00-7:30 pm

No AP One AP: AP Calculus or AP Statistics Two or More APs/ Beyond AP Calculus What Math Course is the student taking in the 8thGrade? 8thGrade Math- Intro to Algebra & Geometry High School Algebra I High School Accelerated Algebra I High School Accelerated Geometry Math Proficiency Builds with Each Course How successful grade-wise has your student been in Math? How successful content-wise has your student been in Math?

  10. Who Should Take Path 1? Anyone who is currently in 8th Grade Math (Intro to Algebra & Geometry) An Algebra 1 student that might be struggling Retaking tests regularly C average or below Should decline Carnegie Unit in Algebra 1 Algebra 1 student who wants a stronger Math foundation or to ease into High School Math. Should decline Carnegie Unit in Algebra 1

  11. Path 1 Sequence 9thGrade 10thGrade 11thGrade 12thGrade Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra 2 Pre-Calculus OR Statistical Reasoning

  13. Who Should Take Path 2? Algebra 1 students who are doing fine Accelerated Algebra 1 students who need to slow down AND/ OR need to receive enrichment in Geometry & Algebra content before moving on Want to ease into high school There are 2 Sequences in this path

  14. Path 2A Sequence 9thGrade 10thGrade 11thGrade 12thGrade Geometry Algebra 2 Pre-Calculus AP Statistics, On-Campus DE, OR Statistical Reasoning Students who may not necessarily want to take an AP Math in senior year or aren t sure yet.

  15. Path 2B Sequence 9th Grade 10th Grade Algebra 2* 11th Grade Accelerated Pre-Calculus* 12th Grade AP Calculus* OR AP Statistics* Geometry* Students who definitely or probably want to take an AP Math in senior year. *Also available as a Gifted class.

  16. Path 3 Accelerated Geometry in 9th Grade Very Accelerated; Use with caution!

  17. Who Should Take Path 3? Students who are currently in Accelerated Algebra I and doing very well. Very few retakes Students who really love math! Students who are committed to working hard in math. Students who want multiple AP maths and beyond. Students considering math/science careers.

  18. Path 3 Sequence 9th Grade 10th Grade 11th Grade 12th Grade Accelerated Geometry* Accelerated Pre-Calculus* AP Calculus* Multivariable Calculus (only if took BC Calc.) OR Advanced Calculus II (only if took AB Calc) OR Georgia Tech Distance Learning (from BC Calc) *Also available as a Gifted class.

  19. Path 4 A 4th path exists for students who are currently in Accelerated Geometry in the 8th Grade and are highly skilled in Math. We invite you to attend Choice Session #1 in the B2 (change in location) if you would like to learn more about this path.

  20. Please Remember Math builds each year, so it s important that students have a strong foundation. The desired end of pathway course (no APs, one AP, 2+ APs) is important in making the decision for 9th Grade Math. If students take the Carnegie Unit in a Math course, they cannot take that course again. The transition between the 8th and 9th Graders is the easiest and best time to change Math tracks.

  21. Still have questions about math? Please stop by the Commons during Sessions 2-6 tonight AND/ OR come to the Q & A night next week (2/3).

  22. Now what? You have the choice sessions sheet for tonight. We will have 6 sessions that will each begin and end with a bell. The x indicates that a topic is being offered that session. Some topics are offered during multiple sessions and others are not. If you have not looked over this and made a plan, you will have a few minutes to do that now.

  23. Location Change The Session for Students Currently Taking Accelerated Geometry is meeting in B2.
