Identifying the Lords Church I. The Founder. The Lord s church was established by Christ. I will build My church (Matt. 16:18). The Lord added to the church. (Acts 2:37-47; 5:11). II. The Name. The Lord s church in the NT. The church of God (1 Cor. 1:2; 10:32; Gal. 1:13; 1 Tim. 3:5). The church of the living God (1 Tim. 3:15). The church of the firstborn (Heb. 12:23). Churches of Christ (Rom. 16:16). Churches of the Saints (1 Cor. 14:33).
Identifying the Lords Church III. The Place of Its Beginning. The Lord s church began in Jerusalem (Acts 2:5). IV. The Time of Its Beginning. The Lord s church began on Pentecost, in the first century (Acts 2:1). V. Its Constitution. The Lord s church is governed only by the word of God as it is taught in the NT (1Tim.3:14-15;2Ti.3:16-17)
Identifying the Lords Church VI. Its Organization. The Lord s church has Christ as the Head, and local churches led by elders and deacons (Col. 1:18; Phil. 1:18; 1 Tim. 3:1-13). VII. Its Activities. The Lord s church is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15). They worshipped in simplicity (Acts 20:7; Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16; 1 Cor. 16:1-2). Their work was teaching and edification (Eph. 4:11-12)
Identifying the Lords Church VIII. Its Terms of Admission. Obedience to the gospel was all that was required for one to be added to the Lord s church (Acts 2:37-47). A faithful Christian identifies with a local church (Acts 11:22-26).
