Why do we need to learn it?
FAA will start to use the ICAO flight plan Form in January, 2017
Match ICAO Standard
The ICAO flight plan form will give ATC more details on your aircraft
equipment.
Understand your aircraft equipment
Navigation equipment:
GPS/VOR/DME/IRU/LORAN/ADF/TACAN/LOC/ILS/MLS…etc.
Communication Equipment:
VHF/UHF/HF/CPDLC(satellite phone)…etc.
Surveillance Equipment:
Transponder/ADS-B…etc.
Survival equipment:
ELT/Survival equipment/Lift Jacket…etc.
Others
Where can you find the equipment info.?
POH/AFM
System Status Page for software version
Consult with your CFI or AMT if you do not know how to find the info.
Manufacturer
What should I put in equipment code?
We only put the equipment code which meets the following ICAO flight
plan criteria.
Presence of relevant serviceable equipment on board the aircraft;
Equipment and capabilities commensurate with flight crew qualifications; and
Where applicable, authorization from the appropriate authority
