Background
(1/2)
IAB-MT frequency error requirement was discussed for several
meetings. There were different views if absolute or relative frequency
error requirement should be defined for IAB-MT.
The followings were considered in order to make the decision.
Synchronization source
Impact to parent throughput
Implementation impact
Test configuration
Background (2/2)
There were some discussions related to IAB parent throughput
and the synchronization source for IAB-DU (parent node or IAB-
MT).
Some company showed concerns on the following issues.
With setting relative frequecy error of 0.1ppm on IAB-MT, companies
does not see the parent IAB node throughput impact anymore.
When IAB-MT is used as sychronization source in a child IAB, the child
IAB absolute frequency accuracy performance (0.05ppm for WA IAB-MT
and 0.1ppm for MR/LA IAB-MT) need to be investigated considering the
below conditions:
IAB-MT relative frequency error is 0.1ppm
Parent IAB absolute frequency error is 0.05ppm or 0.1ppm
Background- system impact
Several papers [1]-[4] identify the impact of the parent IAB node
thoughput impact when IAB-MT relative freqeuncy error exceeding
0.1ppm.
Paper [4] further analysis that the absolute frequency error of child
IAB-MT will contrain to 0.0075ppm when considering the parent IAB
absolute frequency error’s worst case and subject to no-impact on
parent IAB node throughput.
Paper [3] further analysis that when IAB-MT is used as synchornization
source, the IAB-MT frequeqncy error will be bounded with IAB-DU
absolute frequency error and thus the contrains in [4] still exist but not
as tight as 0.0075ppm if the parent IAB can notify the child IAB in
advance when its own frequency error plus IAB-MT tracking errro
approach/exceed the child IAB-DU absolute frequency error.
Background
Problem definition:
With setting relative frequecy error of 0.1ppm on IAB-MT, companies
does not see the parent IAB node throughput impact anymore.
when IAB-MT is used as sychronization source in a child IAB, the child
IAB absolute frequency accuracy performance (0.05ppm for WA IAB-MT
and 0.1ppm for MR/LA IAB-MT) need to be investigated considering the
below conditions:
IAB-MT relative frequency error is 0.1ppm
Parent IAB absolute frequency error is 0.05ppm or 0.1ppm
Way Forward
IAB-MT frequency error requirement is defined as relative
requirement as +/-0.1 PPM relative to received signal from
parent.
Test case configuration should be implementation agnostic and
further discussion on test aspect can happen during conforming
testing phase.
Companies are encouraged to provide opinions on potential
network impact when IAB-MT is used as synchronization source
according to problem definition in previous slide.

Background information and discussions on defining absolute or relative frequency error requirements for IAB-MT in relation to parent throughput, implementation impact, and test configurations. Various viewpoints and concerns were raised regarding the impact on parent IAB node throughput, synchronization sources, and frequency accuracy performance. Papers analyzing the system impact of frequency errors were referenced, highlighting potential constraints and considerations for network performance when using IAB-MT as a synchronization source. The problem definition and proposed way forward for IAB-MT frequency error requirements were also outlined.
