  1. How to Lay Out a Sqare

  2. Gather Supplies Tools Measuring Tape Long enough to measure diagonal lines of your shape Hammer Square Level (if needed) Materials Nails (large enough?) 80d (80 penny) has an 8 shank Builder s string Flag stakes (optional)

  3. Step 1 Establish a Base Line (First Side) 28 or 336 Pretty simple. Place one nail, measure distance, place second nail, and tie your string in between. This is your base line. Once you are satisfied with your measurement and location, this line will NEVER move. For our example, we will lay out the 1st box for the HS Lawnmower CDE Course.

  4. Step 2 Square a Perpendicular Line 28 or 336 7 1 or 85 28 10 9/16 Lay out your 2nd line perpendicular and square with the 1st. A diagonal measurement Can be calculated using the Pythagorean Theorum

  5. Step 3 3rd Line Parallel to the 1st Line 28 or 336 7 1 or 85 28 10 9/16 28 or 336 Lay out your 3rd line parallel with and the same length as the 1st.

  6. Step 4 4th Line Parallel to the 2nd Line 28 or 336 7 1 or 85 28 10 9/16 7 1 or 85 28 or 336 Lay out your 4th line parallel with and the same length as the 2nd.

  7. Step 5 Check Diagonal Measurements 28 or 336 28 10 9/16 7 1 or 85 7 1 or 85 28 or 336 Your Diagonal Measurements should be identical if square.

  8. Final Product 28 or 336 Box 1 Complete! 7 1 or 85 7 1 or 85 28 or 336
