What is Forces
AVENIR?
 
Forces AVENIR is a grant program that
aims to recognize the commitment,
creativity and leadership of students
and student projects that have an
impact on their community and the
world.
 
The Program highlights university
students who distinguish themselves,
either individually or in groups, by
carrying out projects that help to
improve our society. Forces AVENIR
enables students to showcase their
ideas, talents and knowledge.
 
Description of Individual
Categories
 
Personality AVENIR – Undergraduate
Awards will be presented to undergraduate students who
have distinguished themselves through a balance of
academic, personal and social achievements, as well as by
their leadership and the concrete impact and consistency of
their commitment throughout their studies.
Personality AVENIR – Graduate
Awards will be presented to a graduate student who has
achieved distinction through a balance of academic,
personal and social achievements, as well as leadership and
the concrete impact and consistency of his/her commitment
throughout his/her studies.
 
Description of Project Categories
 
Entrepreneurship, Business and Economy
Project relating to economic growth or to the creation, expansion or
recovery of a business venture
Arts, Literature and Culture
Project pertaining to theatre, visual arts, cinema, arts and crafts,
literature, architecture, design or heritage
Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice
Project aimed at promoting community service, humanitarian causes
and respect for human rights or the establishment and promotion of a
just society
Environment
Project concerned with the environment, whether it promotes
environmental protection, recycling, reuse, recuperation, the
sustainable development of natural resources or environmental
education
Health
Project connected with health education, awareness and prevention,
with research or improvement in fields such as nursing, diet, fitness,
mental health and medicine
Science and Technology
Project of a scientific or technological nature, which involves research,
experimentation or popularization in the field of science and
technology
Society, Communications and Education
Project of a social nature linked with communications, education or
political action and which addresses social issues or public concerns
 
Par Excellence Categories
 
The recipients of the Personality AVENIR Par Excellence
and the Project AVENIR Par Excellence awards will be
selected from amongst all the candidates. The winners
will have distinguished themselves from all the other
candidates, and the student or group of students will
have demonstrated a constant pursuit of excellence in all
their activities.
 
* A separate application is not required for this category.

3 finalists and 1 winner per Project AVENIR category
9 finalists and 3 winners for the Personality AVENIR –
Undergraduate category
3 finalists and 1 winner for the Personality AVENIR –
Graduate category
1 winner for the Project AVENIR Par Excellence category
1 winner for the Personality AVENIR Par Excellence
category
 
Grants and Awards
 
$114,000 
in grants dispersed as such:
Project AVENIR
: Finalists will receive $2,000 and the award
recipients $4,000
Personality AVENIR – Undergraduate
: Finalists will receive
$2,000 and the award recipients $4,000
Personality AVENIR – Graduate
: Finalists will receive $2,000
and the award recipients $4,000
Personality AVENIR – Par Excellence
: Winner will receive
$15,000
Project AVENIR – Par Excellence
: Winning project will
receive $15,000
 
Application Period
 
Students have until 31 March 2017 to apply.
HOWEVER
Technically, 31 March 2017 is the deadline to OPEN an
application.
If you are missing files or need more time, McGill will
allow applicants to modify their applications through
Friday, 14 April 2016. This includes the submission of
reference letters.
McGill will submit their nominations to Forces AVENIR by
21 April 2016.
 
Criteria for Personality
AVENIR
 
Be registered as full-time students for at least one
semester during the period of eligibility (1 April 2016 to
31 March 2017)
Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
Not have been paid to participate
Be no more than 35 years of age
Not be former recipients of a Forces AVENIR university
award in the Personality AVENIR category
 
Criteria for Project AVENIR
 
The project may be carried out as part of a university
undergraduate program worth a maximum of 3 credits
The project must not take place in context of a course or
a research program which is part of the requirements for
obtaining a graduate degree
At least 80% of the students involved in the project must
meet the criteria for individuals
The project must be 
initiated
, 
made operational
 or 
be
carried out
 during the period of eligibility (1 April 2016
to 31 March 2017)
The project must not have already received a Forces
AVENIR university award in the Project AVENIR category

APPLICANTS WILL SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATIONS DIRECTLY TO
FORCES AVENIR
 
Selection Process
 
University level:
 McGill will make a first selection and
will submit a maximum of two applications per category
to Forces AVENIR.
Specialist Juries:
 For each category, Forces AVENIR will
set up a jury of three people recognized in their field.
These juries will conduct the applicant interviews and
select the recipients of the grants and AVENIR trophies.
Interviews will take place in June 2016. Applicants will
have to be available in person, by phone, or over
videoconference.
The Grand Jury:
 Finally, a Grand Jury made up of a
number of key figures in society representing different
fields will determine the recipients of the AVENIR Par
Excellence grants and trophies.
