In FireWorks Jeopardy: Trees Edition, students participate in a game related to tree protection and habitat. Teams choose categories and point values, answer questions in the form of a question, and wager points in the final round. The game aims to educate students on various aspects of trees and their environment, such as how deep duff can protect or make a tree more vulnerable to fire.

  1. FireWorks Jeopardy - Directions Team name A B C Set up a scoreboard like this: Game score Make a backup copy of the game on your computer so you can restore it easily. Print a copy of the answers (slides 4-5) or refer to the answers in your lesson plan. Points wagered Project the game (Slide 2). Use Normal view. Minimize the thumbnails in the left margin. Final score Have each team in turn choose a category and point value. Select and delete the teal point-value box to reveal the definition. (Caution: When you select a box, click near a corner. Avoid clicking on the text because this will delete the text rather than the box.) Have the students phrase the answer as a question. For example, the answer to the first box should be What is a leaf? and the answer to the question in the upper right should be What helps deal with crown fire? If their answer is wrong, give the other teams a chance to answer. When a right answer is given, select and delete the light-blue definition box to reveal the green answer box beneath. Add the appropriate number of points for that team in tge Game score row of the scoreboard. After all the cells have been selected, go to the Final Question (slide 3). Ask each team how many of their points they want to wager; record that in the Points wagered row of the scoreboard. Select and delete the teal box to reveal the question. Have team members raise their hands when they have an answer. Have the teams answer in that order. If the answer is wrong, deduct the wagered points and calculate that team s final score. If it is correct, add the wagered points and calculate the final score. Slides 7-10 contain the 3 layers of boxes that make up the game. If necessary, you can use these to restore a box or an entire layer.
