  1. LESSON 4 FACTORS INHIBTING THE PROMOTION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  2. In our previous lesson, we talked about the efforts the government has made to promote science and technology yet there are some factors that prevent the promotion of science and technology and these factors are discussed below: Inadequacy of funds or low level of financial support: This is a major factor that prevent the promotion of science and technology in the country. To build science and technology institutions and facilities, demand a huge sum of money and financial investment but the government does not have such funds or investment to build a lot of these facilities to promote science and technology in the country and this hinder the promotion of science and technology Low level of literacy in Ghana: For every country to excel in the field science and technology, there should be a higher level of literacy in the country so that the people will understand the need to promote science and technology in the country. High rate of illiteracy breeds ignorance of the importance of science and technology and as a result, less attention is given to these fields, therefore inhibiting the promotion of these subjects.

  3. Ignorance of the link between science and technology : science and technology have been hampered in Ghana because, students are not aware of the link between science and technology. The majority of science students in the country have not been adequately briefed on the uses of scientific theories. They are therefore, not able to apply scientific principles to real life situations. Inadequate science equipment : To enhance the studying science and technology in a this country, there should be adequate supply of science equipments to make the teaching and learning of this subject easier. In Ghana, the needed science equipment and materials are not in enough in our various senior high schools, basic schools and even our tertiary institutions and this make it difficult to teach the subject for the students to have comprehensive understanding , therefore making learning difficult for the student and this will contribute to the downward trend of science and technology in the country.

  4. Inadequate research institutions: the research institution which are to undertake scientific and technological researches in Ghana are woefully inadequate. The few existing ones do not also have adequate qualified researchers, to undertake effective research. They also lack the required equipment and funding to carry out their operations and this can prevent the promotion of science and technology in the country. The perception of Science as a difficult subject Shortage of qualified science professionals Low level of in-service training for science teachers
