  4. Book of Revelation Author: John the Apostle Date: AD 96 Location: Isle of Patmos Central Message: The revelation (revealing) of Jesus as The Christ. Apocalype: apo = away from + kalupto = to hide or to cover apokalupsis = to uncover unveil to reveal (revelation).

  6. Book of Revelation The Revelation: to reveal or to unveil the coming of Jesus Christ. The Beatitudes: (1:3) Blessed are they that read. Blessed are they who hear the world of this prophecy. Bless are they that keep those thing, which are written therein.

  7. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 1 Blessed are they that read, hear, and keep the words of this prophecy (v3). Peace from Christ who was (past), is (present), and is to come (future) (v4; v8; v19). Send this prophecy to the seven churches of Asia (v11). Theses churches represented these churches during the Church Age. The seven stars are the seven angles/messages/pastors of the seven churches (v20).

Book of Revelation Preterism is the eschatological viewpoint that suggests some, if not all, biblical prophecies about the end times refer to specific events that happened (historically) in the first century A.D. This fulfillment came, it is argued, through the early Christian church and the Roman Empire. A Futurist view maintains that only the second and third chapters of Revelation (the letters to the churches) are historical. The rest of the events are to occur in the future.

  12. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 2:1-7 Ephesus the desirable church that left its first love. This was the church of the apostles. Ephesus was the influential capital city of Asia Minor on the Aegean Sea. Its was known for its huge metropolis of ancient streets, arches and ruins. Commendation: Hard work, patience, performed many righteous deed, do not tolerate sin, teaches sound doctrine, suffered for Jesus, hate the Nicolaitans. Chastened: Left their first love; should repent. If not, their lamp stand will be removed.

  13. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 2:8-11 Smyrna be faithful until death and I will give the crown of life. This was the church of persecution that suffered poverty and martyrdom. Smyrna was known for its harbors, commerce, and marketplaces. Commendation: Persecuted and poor, yet are rich. Slandered by Satan. Chastening: None. To remain faithful unto death and will receive a crown of life.

  14. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 2:12-17 Pergamum I have a few things against you. This church was married to the state. A church of the world. Pergamum is located on the plains in Western Turkey. It became a Greek and Roman hub for temple worship. Commendation: They remain faithful; Antipas has been martyred. Chastening: Tolerates the teaching of Balaam and of the Nicolaitans. They are to repent or be punished in order to partake of the hidden manna. To be given a white stone with a new name.

  15. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 2:18-29 Thyatira Hold fast to what you have till I come. The false church that followed a seductive prophetess. A state church (18-29). Thyatira was known for its textiles and dyeing trade. Commendation: Their works, love, faith, and patience have greatly increased. Chastening: Allowing Jezebel to teach immorality and idolatry. Unless they repent, both she and her followers will suffer both sickness and death. They are to hold on to what they have. To help rule nations and to be given the morning star.

  16. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 3:1-6 Sardis the dead church that fell asleep. The church of the reformation period (1-6). Sardis is located in western Asia Minor. It was known for its decadent temples and bath house complexes. Commendation: Some have not soiled their garments with sin. Chastening: A reputation of being alive but are dead. Their deed are far from right in God s sight. Repent for Jesus comes as a thief in the night. They will be dressed in white. Their names will be announced before the Father and his angels.

  17. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 3:7-13 Philadelphia I have set before you an open door. This church means open door. It represents the great missionary movement (7-13). Philadelphia is the church of brotherly love that endures patiently. It was known for its variety of temples and worship centers. Commendations: Though weak, they have kept his Word. They have not denied his name. Chastening: None. Hold on and no one will take your crown. Their enemies will fall down before them, kept from trial, become pillars, and given new names.

  18. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 3:14-22 Laodicea the lukewarm church that is neither hot nor cold. This church represents the church of the last days before the coming of Jesus Christ (14-22). Laodicea was a primary trade route between the cultures of the West and East. It was known as a primary hub for the Roman aqueduct system. Commendations: None. Jesus faithful and true witness. Chastening: God view them wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. Church is neither hot or cold (lukewarm), God threatens to spit them out unless they repent. God s clothing to cover their nakedness.

  19. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 3:14-22 Laodicea [continue] . . . Chastening: . . . They are to seek spiritual medicine from God to heal their blindness. God rebukes them because he loves them, He promises to enter their hearts, he will prepare a place for them on his throne. Note: The church age is over at this point; saints are in heaven.

  20. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 4 John sees a door standing open in heaven. The voice saying, Come up here. A vision of God s throne (1-3). Four and twenty (24) elders (4). 12 representatives from each tribe of Israel, and 12 apostles representing the Body of Christ. Four living creatures around the throne, covered with eyes (6-8). Lion = Matthew Calf = Mark Man = Luke Eagle = John

  22. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 5 The book with the seven seals (1). Jesus, the Lamb of God, was the only one found worthy to open the sealed book (2-8). Prayers of the saints (8). Jesus have redeemed us by His blood; worthy is the Lamb and we shall reign with Christ (9-10). Twenty-four elders worshipping the Lamb (14).

Book of Revelation CHAPTER 6 The Great Tribulation begins with the opening of the seven seals: 1st Seal: Conqueror white horse: bow in hand and crown on his head (2). 2nd Seal: Power to make war red horse: takes peace from the earth (4). 3rd Seal: Famine in the land black horse: holding a pair of scales (5-6). 4th Seal: Kill 1/4 of earth pale green horse: Death and Hell (8).

Book of Revelation CHAPTER 6 The Great Tribulation begins with the opening of the seven seals: 5th Seal: Martyrs under the altar who were killed for word of God (9-11): When will you avenge our blood? 6th Seal: The unleashing of great calamities (12-17): They all cry to be hidden from the wrath of God.

Stars falls to the earth. The heavens depart as a scroll. Mountains and islands move from their places. Men run to the mountain and say fall on us. 7th Seal: (see chapter eight)

Angels, elders, and the four living creatures sing: They praise God for his great salvation (9 10) They praise God for his glory, wisdom, and power (12) .

  36. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 8 Silence in heaven when the 7th seal is open (1). The sounding of seven trumpets by seven angles (2). Trumpets 1-4 deals with earth, and 5-7 deals with man. First: Hail and fire mingled with blood upon earth, and 1/3 of trees and all green grass burnt (7). Second: A great mountain burning is cast into the sea, and 1/3 of sea died, and 1/3 ships are destroyed (8).

  38. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 8 Third: The wormwood star falls and destroys 1/3 of the rivers and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter (10-11). Fourth: A third part of the sun, moon, and stars are smitten. A third of the day and night was without light. (12). Fifth Sixth and Seventh: An angel flying through the midst of heaven announcing three woes or curses that would befall the inhabitants of the earth (13).

  40. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 9 Fifth (first woe): The unlocking of the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and smoke came up from the hole like smoke from a big furnace. Out comes locusts to destroy man (1-11). Observe the names of Satan: Abaddon (Hebrew) and Apollyon (Greek). Sixth (second woe): Loose the four angles which are bound in the great river Euphrates to slay 1/3 of humanity (13-21).

  44. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 10 The angel with the little book and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth (2). The voice of seven thunders, I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not (4). Apostle John commanded to take the little book, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey (9-11).

  47. Book of Revelation CHAPTER 11 After measuring the Temple, the court yard was given to the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months (2). After the two witnesses prophesy, they were killed and lied in the streets of Jerusalem for 3-1/2 days (8-9). Coming to life again, they are told to come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them (11-12).

The twenty-four elders worship God Almighty saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and was, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned (17). And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail (19).
