  3. About My Major: I joined the Interdisciplinary Studies Program the beginning of my sophomore year. Originally I was a Business Marketing major, I didn't feel fully content with the classes I was taking nor the future jobs I would be pursuing. At this time I was not aware of what the IDS program was until a friend of mine had joined and told me about it. I joined with an explanation of what I wanted my major to be such as; a combination of disciplines, variety in job opportunities, and wanting to feel fully satisfied with the classes I was taking. When I had expressed these wants to the IDS advisors they helped me create a major that I felt content with. I found myself gravitating towards communication and business classes which lead me to creating a Business Communications major. The one thing I value most about making my own major is that I don t feel forced to take any classes that I do not feel will value me in my future. I also appreciate the variety in professions I can pursue because when I was a sophomore I was unclear of what exactly I wanted to do. Overall creating your own major is a very rewarding hands on experience.

  4. Project Overview After meeting with Martha, Robin, Matt, and Hannah we talked about my project as well as they answered questions that I had. After this meeting my original plan for this project was to conduct a social media campaign. When planning and discussing with Martha in class we came to the conclusion that there wasn t enough time to include all social media platforms so I then redirected my idea to create an Instagram content plan. The instagram content plan is weekly instagram posts and story tasks for a Co-lab Student Affiliate to complete throughout the spring semester. It consists of IDS event reminders, co-lab insights, Interdisciplinary Studies Program appreciation, and fun post such as an instagram takeover. The Plan provided is a prototype to what the Instagram Content Plan would look like due to the fact that as the semester progresses new events and information will be created therefore the content plan will be in need of an update.

  5. Research: For my research I conducted two different surveys, targeting two different groups of students. Non IDS students and IDS students. The first survey asked non IDS members questions such as: Non IDS students research result summary: It was a pretty even split of non IDS students who were aware of what the program is but not aware of all the opportunities it brings for example: helps transfer students with credits, you can be any year when you enter, ect. This brought me to a consensus that I should include IDS awareness as apart of my content plan. Do you know what the Interdisciplinary Studies Program is? If so are you aware of all the different opportunities it brings to students? IDS students research result summary: The second survey was for IDS students questions asked were: A Lot of students surveyed had found out about the IDS program through word of mouth and or from the Plymouth State University Programs of Study webpage. Majority of the students entered the program when they were first or second year students but you can be any year. My favorite finding from this study was seeing all of the different unique programs created. This brought me to a conclusion I wanted to incorporate the opportunities IDS brings to students which is represented through all of the different majors. How did you find out about the Interdisciplinary studies program? What year were you when you entered the program? What was the reason you joined and what major did you create?

  26. Process & Challenges This project was very fun to complete. The main objective was to create a guideline to make it easy for Cosa students to post to the IDS instagram with visual representations as well as a thorough explanation. It was important to conduct research to conclude what should be involved in the content plan. I think the main challenge was not knowing what exactly the spring semester will look like therefore a lot of the content included had to be a prototype. As the spring semester progresses so will the content within the instagram post plan.It was fun to use the skills and abilities I have learned from classes to conduct research as well as create a social media plan. Overall this is an accurate prototype of what the instagram content plan would look like.
