1. Define the Columbian Exchange: The global transfer of plants, animals and diseases that occurred during the European Colonization of the Americas. A)Did it have a positive or negative effect on the world? The Columbian exchange had both positive and negative effects
2. What are the three Early American Civilizations that we covered? A. Aztec B. Inca C. Maya Fun facts you need to know! **They all had rituals and sacrifices that were to designed to satisfy a divine being. ***Aztecs were sooo hated that their neighbors willingly joined the Spaniards to take down the Aztecs.
3. What are the characteristics of the Inca civilization? They lived close to what mountains? What River? The Incas built an extensive road network Didn t have a written language Built buildings out of stone Andes Mountains Amazon River
4. What impact did European Exploration have on Native Americas? Death of millions of Native Americans
5. (a) What was the main motive for European Expansionism? Main Motive Economic Opportunity (Gold God and Glory) (b) What technologies contributed to European exploration and expansionism? Astrolabe, the Mercator projection map, the magnetic compass and the printing press
6. What was the purpose of mercantilism? England established the American colonies based on the economic concept of mercantilism, the goal is to increase trade, power and wealth for Britain.
7.(a) Define Triangular Trade. Triangular trade in the 1700s involved trade between the American colonies, Europe and Africa. Goods from the Americas, such as rum, tobacco and hemp were shipped to Europe for sale in European markets. (b) Trade shifted from the Mediterranean Sea to what Ocean? Atlantic
8. What was the most important item of African Trade? Slaves.
9. (a) How Guttenbergs invention increased literacy in all cultures? More people were able to read and literacy rates increased (b) How did it helped contribute to the reformation? The bible was printed in commonly used languages leading to greater criticism of the Church, and Luther was able to print his complaints.
10. Define the Renaissance? The rebirth of learning that produced many great works of art and literature and gave a renewed interested in the Greek and Roman way of life.
11. Define the Crusades and what was the major motives behind the crusades? One of the causes of the Renaissance, these battles for the Holy Land opened trade for Europe with Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
12. What was the geography of ancient Greece like and how did this effect their society? One effect of the rugged mountainous geography on the civilization of ancient Greece was the development of separate independent civilizations **Sparta vs Athens***
13.(a) What are some of the characteristics of the Roman Empire? Twelve tables, Extensive Road system, the Invention of Concrete, Republic (b) Architecture in the Colosseum demonstrated? Arches! (kinda like McDonald s) **** but don t forget they also did domes think like a lid.***
