  3. What is a stimulus?

  4. Crack! The stone cools my ear, hits the bollard at the end of our road and spends itself against the boarded window of what had once been our corner shop. It was the Laz boys from the Row beyond the Engineer again. They do not like our street. We do not like them either so I do not see why they should like us. Only, why they have to pick on me I do not know. I try to slip out of school and get home with as little trouble as possible. Mind you, I can throw a stone when I have to, because it s no use being an angel when you live in hell - and that is what the gangs round about our street call it Hell s Alley . But we call it home.
