Work for CAA Advocate for institution, program, faculty, students, and profession Objective consultant to provide insight into global best practices in higher education Informed consultant to provide educational guidance within framework of institution s mission
Read the Guide for External Review Teams; review the sample report Read through the CAA Standards to be familiar with the content, where to find information, (Standards, Stipulations, and Annexes); keep a printed copy handy. Don t get overwhelmed there are people to guide and support you!
Print the institutions Self-Study (suggested) Read through entire report; make notes for further review Closely review each section and evidence (usually in appendices) as I review evidence, I note the pages where I find evidence so I don t have to search again; this can be included in the ERT report
You must focus on the documents the institution includes: Quality Assurance Manual (policies, procedures, activities) Institutional Effectiveness Manual Committee Minutes Other reports, Fact Book, etc. Know what s in the Standards, Stipulations, Annexes so you can refer to them Do they assess the QA effectiveness? Do they get input from stakeholders, advisory board, etc.?
Note confirmation, contradictions, gaps, get list of questions started Ask for additional materials Is there a revised or more recent QA Manual Start drafting sections! Start list of questions for QA staff
Confirm the data in the Self-Study Get all questions answered by institution s staff, commissioner, other ERT members Review any new documents submitted Complete your writing
