Literacy or subject homework will be set every Thursday and children will be given a week or sometimes 2 weeks for longer pieces. This is also due in on a Tuesday. Dates will be clear.

  8. Support for Parents Please refer to the Parent Support booklets for maths, reading and writing, which can be found on the Jaguars page on our school website. It is important that home and school work together to support your child s development. As such, please continue to keep me up to date with aspects of your child s learning or social development. We will be able to give you more formal feedback in our October parents evening and if you wish to make an appointment at other times, please don t hesitate to contact us.

  9. Attendance Matters Following the pandemic, schools are continuing to work hard to plug relevant learning gaps and to support children s social development. We need your support to do this. If a child has an attendance figure of 90% in the year they miss the equivalent of day of school each week, four weeks over the year, and half a year over five years. 90% sounds good but it isn t! This has an enormous impact on a child s development. Research links low attendance to lower GCSE scores. 90% of young people with absence rates below 85% fail to achieve five or more good GCSE grades. There are 190 statutory days in one school year leaving 175 days available for holidays, family time, appointments, visits and so on . Please ensure holidays are taken during school holiday periods. The local authority fined more Acresfield parents last year than in any previous year. The school does not get the money! Please can you help to ensure our attendance figures are strong. Our target for the school this year is 97% We monitor attendance monthly and will write to you offering support. North West Academies Trust has a new attendance officer who will also be working with schools and families to support strong attendance.

  10. Attendance Matters Lateness In addition, please can we ask for your help to ensure all children arrive at school for an 8.50am start. This is when the whistle is blown. Arriving just five minutes late a day equates to the following 25 minutes lost over one week, 1 hour 40 minutes lost a month, 5 hours lost a term [a whole day], 16 hours and 15 minutes lost in a school year. [equivalent to three days]. 10 minutes late a day equates to losing just over six full days of school a year. Children who arrive late, disrupt a smooth start to the day. It impacts on learning, as learning begins straight away. Punctuality and good attendance will greatly help your children prepare for high school and working life beyond. Thank you for your help with this.
