  2. Sleep Survey 1. On average, how many hours do you sleep every night? 2.How many hours of sleep do you need for optimal performance? 3. Do you notice a change in your ability to function when you haven t had enough sleep? What do you notice? 4.What could you do to limit the number of nights with too little sleep?

Obstacles to Remembering: Lack of Sleep-can affect mood and the ability to make memories and learn, but it also affects metabolism, appetite, blood pressure, levels of inflammation in the body and immune responses. Cramming-causes stress, which leads to test anxiety. It overloads your brain, which can only focus on one concept at a time for learning and retention. * Your brain begins to wander after about 10 minutes, at which point you need a new stimulus to spark interest. You have to switch gears to keep your brain engaged.

  4. Methods of Studying Which of the following is your most common method of studying? a. Reading or rereading the text or class notes b. Watching videos of people discussing the topic. c. Taking practice quizzes/ tests. d. Creating/using study tools (flashcards, mnemonic devices, etc.) e. Working with a study group, tutor, or academic support.

  7. Major Concept: For learning to stick, we need to work hard to pull the information out of our memory and use it by continually pushing ourselves to accomplish increasingly difficult tasks.
