Creating Resilience among Rural Communities: Communication Outreach and Climate Change Prof. Pradeep Nair Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, India
Objectives of the Innovation: 1. To explore the relationship between local information channels/networks (including local media outlets) and climate change with a focus on the information needs of rural/hill communities. 2. To extend knowledge sharing and capacity buidling support to state and private development agencies to expand their understanding and awareness of macro and micro ecological interventions in terms of economic stability, climate resilience and maintaining the local biodiversity. 3. To explore and practice communication and outreach as a source of awareness, advocacy and policy change. 4. To explore the possibilities of expanding the role of communication outreach in increasing the ability of local communities to connect with one another, and to engage directly on advocacy and policy issues. 5. Encouraging citizen action through outreach campaigns on local climate issues.
Methods and Tools: 1. Sensitization Workshops 2. Awareness Campaigns 3. Media Advocacy 4. Capacity-building workshops 5. Training Sessions (local journalists & other stakeholders) 6. Local media stories
Possible Outcomes: 1. To extend the boundaries of knowledge and expertise of agencies in collaboration to local communities to strengthen local governance. action & 2. To facilitate people to take informed decisions on water and climate change issues and local governance.
