Ford Hyundai Samoa Employers Perspective on Workplace Assessment Process
Winning the Race for Talent Attracting, developing and retaining technical talent has become the ultimate priority for FHS. While this challenge is not a new one for other industries, it has become more critical than ever, due to the technology, business-model, and consumer- preference disruptions affecting our business. These challenges will be particularly stark for automotive companies and how they respond to these challenges will play a large role in determining the winners and losers in the coming decade.
Industry Engagement & Involvement: What? Automotive students are exposed to assessment process s by certified and experienced members and now assessors in their respected industries. How? On the Job assessment through vast and many aspects of diagnosis, maintenance and repair work of motor vehicles, following SQA framework. Why? As our industry grows rapidly, the importance of on the job assessment by industry members is imperative to the students so they are well prepared for the current trends and demands.
Providers and Workplace What are better ways to nurture this relationship? Communicate often via multiple channels When it comes to status updates, events and new trends, give a little more information than you think is necessary, Prioritize industry transparency. Explain what s on the horizon and listen to employee feedback and vice versa Plan regular coffee chats. Reach out to someone you don t know that well and initiate a conversation that intentionally doesn t hinge on work. The greatest ideas are generated from coffee chats Don t be afraid to upend what s always been done. Are there processes that could be more inclusive? Projects that could be smoother and more streamlined? Are there better ways for Providers, Industry and Students to connect and collaborate?
Are there any Challenges? The lack of Basics 1. English Speaking and Reading 2. Computer Skills 3. Trade work is mostly not being taken seriously 4. Lack of alternative career path understanding 5. And possibly the lack of well paid opportunities within this industry in Samoa
