  4. What should be included in Reading and Activity Workbooks for Adult Learners? 1. A Focus on Learners' Goals and Needs Adult English learners have varying literacy needs and different goals for language acquisition, which include job success, increased job opportunities, better involvement in their children's education, gaining U.S. citizenship, participating in their community, and continuing their education (Burt, Peyton, & Adams, 2003). PRESENTATION TITLE 4

  5. What should be included in Reading and Activity Workbooks for Adult Learners? When the learning process and activities align with adult learners' goals, life experiences, and culture, it motivates them and enhances their literacy skills (Huang, 2013). 2. Meaningful Activities PRESENTATION TITLE 5

  6. What should be included in Reading and Activity Workbooks for Adult Learners? 3. Vocabulary and Grammar It is crucial to design and incorporate vocabulary and grammar learning in a meaningful way that can accelerate learners' growth. Research suggests that language learners acquire vocabulary knowledge through extensive and frequent reading, but they also need vocabulary knowledge to be able to read (Burt, Peyton, & Adams, 2003). According to Burt, Peyton, & Adams (2003), "Grammar learning should be integrated with reading instruction to reinforce grammar learning itself, increase reading comprehension, and provide a context for the examination of grammatical structures" (p. 10). It's important to incorporate vocabulary related to specific topics along with specific grammar lessons. These can then be integrated into passages, followed by comprehension activities to assess students' understanding of vocabulary and grammar points. PRESENTATION TITLE 6

  7. What should be included in Reading and Activity Workbooks for Adult Learners? As Huang (2013) noted, "Reading comprehension is the ability to discern meaning from written text and is the focus of all reading engagement" (p. 10). Students can demonstrate their understanding of the passage by answering comprehension questions related to the text. 4. Reading comprehension activities PRESENTATION TITLE 7
