Purpose of Adult Education
 
Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA)
Assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge
and skills necessary for employment and economic self-
sufficiency.
Assist adults who are parents or family members to obtain
the education skills that
Are necessary to becoming full partners in the educational
development of their children; and
Lead to sustainable improvements in the economic opportunities
for their family,
Purpose of Adult Education
 
Assist adults in attaining a secondary school diploma and in
the transition to postsecondary education and training,
including through career pathways; and
Assist immigrants and other individuals who are English
language learners in—
Improving their 1) reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension
skills in English; and
2) Math skills; and
Acquiring an understanding of the American system of
Government, individual freedom, and the responsibilities of
citizenship

Eligibility Information
 
You are at least 16 years of age
Not enrolled or required to be enrolled in K-12 education
(public, private, and homeschool)
Authorized to work in the U.S.
And
Do not have a high school diploma, OR
You need help with math, reading, and writing, OR
You struggle to read, write, or speak English
Service to Minors
 
Participants must be at
least 16 years old
Officially withdrawn from
school enrollment
(public, private, church-
related, or homeschool)
by the parents/guardians
or legal custodians
Services to Minors
 
Must have a signed approval form certifying the child has
been withdrawn from school and allows for them to
participate in adult education (signed by the
parent/guardian/legal custodian)
These forms are available at your local AE offices.
Service to Minors
 
 
Our programs must provide a report to the local board of
education at least three (3) times per year relative to the
child’s progress.
A 17 y/o may take the HiSET exam with a signed HiSET
Recommendation form (by the superintendent of the
school system).
This form and a government-issued ID are required at the
testing centers.
