Empowering Youth through Education: LuL Programme Overview
The LuL Programme aims to provide young people with low-stress, fun, and relevant learning environments, regardless of their social circumstances. With guiding principles of fairness, playful learning, and student-led support, the programme empowers students to take charge of their learning. Through a structured approach including mentoring, guided study, and capstone projects, students report increased opportunities, confidence, and passion for learning. The programme focuses on building connections, developing skills, and fostering a love for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Students report an increased number and quality of opportunities in their lives than when they began LuL. 100% of students who have been a part of LuL for at least one year report feeling as if they could attend university if they wanted to. After 6+ months with LuL, all students reported believing that they have the potential to be more successful than their parents, with 22% of those students having previously been unsure if that was possible. After at least six months with LuL, 89% of students reported feeling confident to research new things, and believe they have acquired the skill set to do so. 100% of students who have been a part of LuL for at least one year report that they can do well in school, and see themselves as good students. Students have the confidence and resources to pursue opportunities of interest to them. After at least six months with LuL, 89% of students reported that they learn about what they love regularly, with 1/3 of those students formerly having not reported doing so. When asked how they feel after a LuL session, students frequently reported that they feel happy , confident , more relaxed , and a sense of achievement ; because they get to research topics [they] are actually interested in. Students seek out learning in joyful ways, both in and out of the classroom. Students enthusiastically share their passion for learning with others. LuL has...taught me more about myself than I think any classroom ever could and has given me the confidence to reach for my aspirations instead of settling for mediocrity...Light Up Learning has been the best thing Lasswade High School has enrolled me in. Thomas Anderson, S6 student
We are thrilled that through working with you we can see a noticeable difference in Aspen s confidence of her own abilities, which is filtering into other aspects of her school and home life. Parent Feedback
LuL has made a transformational difference to the students involved in the programme. The level of input and commitment from the tutors, alongside their warm and nurturing approach with our students, has improved both the aspirations and outlook of students. Undoubtedly one of the most valuable interventions we have been offered via any partner organization. Graham Paris, Depute Headteacher
