2 SC D1 Introduction Scope The activities of SC D1 concern the evaluation and monitoring of: Fundamental aspects of new and existing materials for electro-technology (conducting and insulating materials for electrical use) Multi-component insulating arrangements with one or more electrical insulating materials used in conjunction with associated conducting parts Diagnostic techniques and related knowledge rules Emerging test techniques As a horizontal study committee - support the other CIGRE Study Committees and external customers as well Strategic Direction Generate interest and promote Study Committee work increase Canadian participation in SC D1 working groups Involve a broader audience 2024 CIGRE Canada Study Committees Update Meeting October 30

Current challenges and understanding of PD behaviour under AC, DC, rectifier, and impulse stress. Knowledge rules and tools for improved diagnostics. PS 2: Materials for electrotechnical purposes and modelling Ageing of materials under electrical, mechanical or thermal stresses and ageing markers. Advances in the application of novel materials and processes; superconductors, nano-composites, energy storage, additive manufacturing etc. Modelling materials and field simulations for AC and DC applications. PS 3: Measurements and modelling of interfaces Understanding interfacial behaviour through experiments from nano- to macro-scale. Modelling field and charge dynamics at interfaces.
