Facts about the shamrock. The word shamrock comes from the Irish word seamr g which means Little Clover . People have worn shamrocks on St. Patrick s Day for hundreds of years dating back to the 1700 s. During the Famine some people even ate the shamrock. @primaryteachingideas
What is the shamrock? Did you know there is no such thing as a shamrock plant? As we said shamrock comes from the Irish word seamr g meaning little clover . There are hundreds of different types of clover. @primaryteachingideas
Does a shamrock have 3 or 4 leaves? The shamrock represents the Trinity which is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. For a shamrock to be a true shamrock it only as three leaves to represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. @primaryteachingideas
Lucky 4 Leaf Clovers. It has been said that finding a 4 leaf clover will bring you luck. In 1620 it was quoted "If a man walking in the fields finds any four-leaved grass, he shall in a small while after, find some good thing. The first leaf is meant to bring Hope, the second leaf is for Faith, the third leaf is for Love and the fourth leaf is for Luck @primaryteachingideas
Growing your shamrock. Seeds can be grown in small pots or trays in moist soil. Place in a bright location in your house but not directly in sunlight. Seedling will begin to appear in a few days. If the soil is kept moist they will grow quickly. Two leaves will appear first and the third will come after a few days. @primaryteachingideas
Growing your shamrock. The shamrock will turn to the light as it grows. Why is this? You will notice it closing its leaves as it goes to sleep at night. After 6-8 weeks it will grow a yellow flower. @primaryteachingideas
