Competency Academy Outcomes Vision and Strategy Participants will understand how to develop a mission, vision, and core values that are actionable and drive the day-to-day work in a school. Participants will determine actions needed to build commitment from stakeholders to the vision, mission, and core values. Participants will develop strategies for establishing collective responsibility amongst school staff that leads to improved outcomes for students. Participants will learn strategies for building collective efficacy by fostering a culture that values professional learning, collaborative practices, and mutual accountability. Instructional Expertise Participants will understand how to create systems that promote the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment within and across grade levels and/or content areas, that improve coherence and alignment. Participants will develop practices for setting high expectations for all staff members and understand how to use observation and evaluation to provide actionable feedback that improves professional practice. People and Culture Participants will learn how to develop plans for individualized professional learning that is data driven and supports staff with reflection, continuous improvement and promotes a healthy work life balance. Participants will engage in collaborative opportunities to reflect using data and develop a plan for their own professional growth. Participants will learn and practice strategies for interacting with staff in a manner that prioritizes relational trust and allows for continued professional growth.

Operations and Organization Participants will learn methods for evaluating available resources to develop systems that optimize student learning. Participants will develop strategies to communicate school improvement as a priority to stakeholders and to provide opportunities for staff and stakeholders to lead improvement strategies. Participants will learn how to create a shared accountability structure for monitoring and evaluating school improvement efforts. Community and Equity Participants will develop and implement an action plan to address the disproportionality of inequities and partner with stakeholders to provide learning experiences and resources for all student groups that promote cultural responsiveness. Participants will learn strategies for partnering with stakeholders to provide resources that support the academic success and well being of each student. Participants will learn how to employ a variety of communication strategies to effectively engage in communication with families and community members that support student need. Participants will learn strategies to advocate on behalf of the school system. Personal Values Participants will learn strategies for ensuring the well-being of students is the fundamental value in all decision-making and actions. Participants will learn how to demonstrate effective ethical and professional communication skills that reflect knowledge and acceptance of all students, staff backgrounds, social-emotional well-being and cultures.
