The RFD Crab Cavity Project, overseen by Leonardo Ristori, has undergone significant design modifications to meet HL-LHC requirements. The finalized design includes dressed RFD crab cavities aimed for qualification and integration by 2023. Upcoming reviews and approvals are crucial as per the project timeline outlined in the document.

  1. RFD Crab Cavity Introduction, Project Overview Leonardo Ristori L2 Manager, HL-LHC AUP / Crab Cavities RFD Design Freeze 15 March 2018

  2. Introduction The inherited design of the LARP RFD cavity was modified through a number of iterations and cross-checks between AUP and CERN to ensure performance in HL- LHC according to new requirements. This process took many months, we are confident that the design presented today meets HL-LHC requirements and is robust with respect to manufacturing variations. We seek an OK to proceed with finalizing mechanical design and fabrication documentation. L. Ristori - RFD Design Freeze - 15 March 2018

  3. Scope and Deliverables Dressed RFD Crab Cavity Assembly: Bare Cavity + Magnetic Shields + Helium Tank + RF Ancillaries Qualification at 2 K + Shipment to CERN 10 Dressed RFD Crab Cavities Qualified at FNAL (in VTS at 2K) Ready for integration in cryomodule (at CERN) (8) for tunnel installation (threshold KPP) Need by: Summer-Fall 2023 (2) additional at later time (objective KPP) L. Ristori - RFD Design Freeze - 15 March 2018

  8. Crab Cavity Technical Progress NEW Electro-Magnetic Design Requirements on HOM impedance and power dissipation are addressed, Tolerance studies completed (Z.Li talk) NEW Mechanical Design Complete at a Preliminary Stage (M.Parise talk) NEW Chemical Processing at ANL Rotational BCP tool upgraded to accept RFD crab cavity. Successfully tested with water (bottom image) Processing + Cold Test in April-May Install HOMs and re-test June-July L. Ristori - RFD Design Freeze - 15 March 2018

  9. Procurement of AUP Prototypes 2018-2019 Main goal of prototypes is to lead the path for production in 2020- 2021 Procurement will be set up as 2 + option of 12 units to ensure continuity at the same supplier Material provided to cavity supplier: RRR niobium sheets (available) Nb-Ti discs (available) Nb-SST brazed joints (construction imminent) Documentation necessary for launching prototypes: Functional drawing of bare cavity (FNAL drawing exists, see talk of M. Parise) Fabrication specification, aka technical specification (FNAL document exists, based on CERN DQW call for tender) Example of MIP with hold points (exists for CERN DQW, FNAL document being finalized for RFD, S.Andres) L.
