Marginalised in Luke: children Luke 9:43-48
Luke 9:48 (NIV) Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.
Stephanie Marston Because children see parents as authority figures and gods, they think that the way you treat them is the way they deserve to be treated. 'What you say about me is what I am' is a literal truth to your child. Consequently, when children are treated with respect, they conclude that they deserve respect and hence develop self-respect.
Children marginalised in Australia ~ 16,000 kids in out of home care (OOHC) 43% are Aboriginals OOHC to prison pipeline 24% of prison population grew up in care 49% young people in custody are Aboriginal (6% of general population) Children with disabilities are twice as likely to be marked as young offenders than those without disabilities An estimated 41% of people seeking asylum are children (despite comprising 30% of the general population)
Adverse Childhood Experiences (CDC): ACEs are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood.
Ronald Fairbairn It is better ' to be a sinner ruled by God than to live in a world ruled by the Devil the former offers some ' sense of security and hope of redemption , whereas the latter only offers the ' prospect of death and destruction. '
Luke 9: 46-48 46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.
Luke 9: 43-46 43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marvelling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it. An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest [then Jesus brings a child ] It is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.
I am a Child of God How would you talk to yourself? How would you approach God?
