MY JOB AS AN ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER Reading Talking to family members Writing Talking to the prosecutor s witnesses Arguing in court /attending hearing Brainstorming the case with my co- workers Interpreting laws & cases Negotiating with the prosecutor (client my get probation/sentenced to jail/prison) Preparing for trial Investigating the case Getting client mental health treatment/substance abuse treatment Observing and taking pictures of crime scene
HOW I BECAME A LAWYER 01 02 03 04 05 06 Graduated from Wyandotte High School Associates Degree: Donnelly College (2 years) Bachelors Degree: Park University (2 years / 4 years) LSAT (Law School Admission Test) Law School: Bar Exam: Law License in KS & MO KU Law (3 years)
BAR EXAMS Varies by State Missouri Held every February and July The last Tuesday and Wednesday of those months The test includes: The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) 3 HOURS 6, 30 minutes short essays Test your ability to identify legal issues Ability to understand what s relevant and what is not Demonstrates your understanding of the law The Multistate Performance Test (MPT) 1 HOUR 30 MINS 2 essays questions 90 mins per essay Test your ability fundamental lawyering skills Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) 6 HOURS 200 multiple choice questions Test your legal reasoning and ability to understand legal principles
