  8. Beethoven Born in 1770, in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven s music is a bridge between the Classical period of Haydn and Mozart, and the Romantic period of Chopin, Berlioz, Schubert, Mendelssohn etc. Written in 1823, his ninth and final symphony included an anthem inspired by the 1785 poem by Friedrich Schiller, on the theme of brotherhood, freedom, and peace between all nations. In 1972, the Council of Europe adopted the Ode to Joy as its anthem. In 1985, the European Heads of State adopted the song as the anthem of the European Union. It was not intended to replace each country s anthem, but to be symbolic of unity in diversity, and the shared values of the member states of the European Union.

  9. https://corkpops.ie/performances/performance-1/ This is worth having a look at, as it introduces the basic elements of music and features the very popular Bolero, by Maurice Ravel, and has good close-up shots of the snare drum, and of the instruments playing the melody. All sections of the orchestra are featured strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion.
