connect with people and interact more with the presenters.”

“Larger conferences can feel overwhelming due to the number of attendees, sessions,
etc. Core was a good size, with a wide variety of topics and an interesting mix of people.
Everything was so well-organized and it felt like the conference was executed well by all
of the people involved.”

Slide Note

Melissa - Welcome and introduce Wendy

Welcome and thank you for joining us this afternoon. My name is Melissa Brooks. I am the Head of Technical Services at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. I am currently the co-chair of the Core Forum Planning committee. Our other co-chair Debbie Ehrman, who is the Deputy Director of the Salt Lake City Public Library, is unfortunately unable to attend today’s event due to a previously scheduled work commitment.

There are several people here to talk about Core. Let me go ahead and introduce some of the faces of Core.

1. Julie Reese, she is the Executive Director of Core.

2. Tom Ferren, he is the Core Deputy Executive Director of Learning & Events

3. Wendy Tressler - Core President

4. Angie Ohler - Core President Elect

In our conversation today, our various speakers will talk a little bit about Core and the work that is happening in ALA’s newest and personally for me the ‘best’ division. They will discuss the different sections that compose Core, opportunities for involvement in Core, and finally how everyone can participate in our 2024 Core Forum Conference in Minneapolis, MN.

I am going to turn over the conversation to Wendy where she will talk about the main functions of Core.
