  4. A Stanford dean says you should have these skills to be a successful adult Skills to master during JR and SR years 1. Manage assignments, workload, and deadlines: Compare to freshman & sophomore years 2. Talk to people outside of family ie. teachers community members, college admissions counselors, employers (in interviews) etc 3. Handle interpersonal problems- conflicts with friends, family, teachers etc.

  5. Skills for JR and SR year 4. Cope with ups and downs in a healthy way: How to get support when you need it? Healthy ways to blow off steam 5. Earn and manage money: Summer Job Opportunities! 6. Get involved in your community: more to come 7. Take risks: meet new people, take a class which intimidates or challenges you, apply to your dream college, try a new hobby or a new food!

GPA SAT or ACT score Extracurricular activities Volunteer and Work experience Personal Statement/Interview Letters of recommendation Colleges want well rounded students who are going to make positive contributions to their campus Challenging Coursework (AP, Honors, 4-year of math, science or world language)

State Schools in Oregon Undergraduate Freshman Admissions Requirements 2016-2017 Academic Year C or better core classes SAT or ACT test scores GPA requirements 3.0- Southern Oregon University, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Portland State University, Western Oregon University, Oregon Institute of Technology 2.75- Eastern Oregon University

  13. Whats the Big Deal about D s and F s? Fs = 0 Credit = Recovering the credit! Ds= HS school credit BUT 4 year colleges will NOT accept Ds in a core subject on your High School transcript, so if you get a D and want to go to a University, you will have to re-take the course! Includes AP classes D is for Diploma C is for College

  14. What if I want to start at a Community College and transfer to a University? This is a great plan for many! OREGON Promise! Free community college for ALL! Regardless of immigration status or income! (hopefully) NEW FAFSA deadline! FAFSA opens in October of your senior year! Be sure to check out the transfer requirements for the University you want to transfer to. Especially GPA, credits, and prerequisite requirements.

Supports for Senior Year Counselors will push into your classroom early in the fall to give you more specific info on how to get your transcript, get a letter of recommendation, etc. We will offer a variety info sessions during tutorials to answer your question and help you with specific topics Reach out to others in your life who have can offer you support Attend College Events for Juniors (4/27, 4/30) Register for Gear-Up Jump Start July 2017

  17. What is a CRLE? Career Related Learning experiences (CRLEs) help students connect what they are learning in school to the real world.
