Feedback

I enjoyed the course. I have definitely caused a mindset shift for me on how to talk with students about
creating an appropriate career plan.
 – Meredith, school counselor
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for leading such a useful course. Often PD & educational courses are
geared more towards teachers or administrators, not counselors. It was exciting to take a course that is
applicable to my profession! I am looking forward to implementing the ideas & concepts I have learned in
the course.
–E. Green, Middle School counselor
I really liked the class discussions and hearing what other schools are doing to help their students determine
their career path.
I think it is very important to educate students on the labor market projections and be realistic with them. The
1:2:7 ratio is a basic, easy to understand method to explain the high need for operatives and technicians.
Education on these careers is important, as students may not fully know what opportunities are out there
for them in these areas. –R. Conley, counselor

Slide Note

Career advising is an important part of a student’s success in high school and beyond. Today, career choices, resources and options for high school students are many and often complicated. Ohio’s Schools employ staff to help guide students, but those individuals must have the knowledge they need to advise students on career choices.

Further, Ohio’s required Career Advising Policy states that every student in grades 6-12 should receive career counseling.

In order to equip educators with the information they need to help students navigate career choices and meet the CAP requirement, a certificate program has been developed by Butler Tech specifically for educators and others who seek resources and knowledge on career advising. This program is an online 8-week course with one required face-to-face meeting. The program has been designed for administrators, counselors and teachers and other staff to learn more about Ohio’s Career Advising Policy, career counseling, career development, and available resources to meet the policy requirements. Learn how to guide student’s in considering all their career options along with the training and education needed. An opportunity to network with other educators throughout the state is also an invaluable part of the course.
