What is unchanged?
 
Experienced Teachers – Massive thank you!
Familiar Resources – Website, Teachers Guidelines, Role plays, QRG, DOCS
Small groups students  - remains 6-7  - previous “tutorial” groups
Importance of keeping an accurate attendance register
Weekly timetable
CSEC sessions f2f (less skills – DRE/glucometer/insulin/eyes/ears)

What is different?
Remote teaching by ZOOM only – basic Zoom training blog available
 
Clinical skills – mixture of ‘usual’ autumn skills with some spring 2
nd
 year skills
 
GI / Diabetes / Neurology
 
MSK / Gynae / Thyroid
 
9 weekly sessions to be timetabled -  but allows 3 weeks wriggle room to change dates in emergencies
 
Please ensure you have student contact details
 
NO REAL patient involvement so…….
 
Role plays expanded, Detailed DOCS, your patient stories…..

Feedback remains essential to clinical skills teaching!
How?…..
Histories – Live student role plays – consider break out rooms (another blog)
Examinations – Live demos may be possible – Likely dependent on video recordings of students performing skills on volunteers
Video recording guidance available – Limit  5m maxm, Volunteer 18 or over, View consent forms, Student Checklist
Onus is on the student to  “share screen” with the group to play recordings
 
 
Requires flexibility depending on individual circumstances / groups
 
No expectation of DOCS but students need to upload their video checklists to their e-portfolio
Set ‘homework’ task  weekly prior preparation by students will be essential  - Suggestions on the timetable  eg. reviewing webpages /1 or 2
students preparing a video
 
* Students have been provided with tendon hammers

WEEK 1
Introductions, Consider ice breakers  Group situation - Identify learning opportunities in the group Planning ahead – ground rules (zoom,videoing,consent),  equipment needs
(recording,DOCS etc), student circumstances etc. Infection control principles Review year 1 skills eg. cardiac /respiratory /urinary histories.
 
WEEK 2
All students review the online resources for: GI history GI examination
GI history – clinical scenarios /examples  GI system examination
 
WEEK 3
2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or be willing to perform live role play of a GI history or abdominal exam
All students review the online resources for: DM history  Examination sensation
Watch videos / live role play and give feedback  eg. GI history, Part of GI examination, Abdominal exam  Consider DOCS
DM history  Examination of sensation
WEEK 4
2 students prepare skill: Prepare a video or be willing to perform live role play of a diabetic history or sensory exam
All students review the online resources for: Headache fits faints history Abbreviated mental test AMT Glasgow Coma Scale
Watch videos / live role play and give feedback  eg. diabetic history, sensory  examination
 
 
 
WEEK 5
2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or be willing to perform live role play of a headache history or completing an AMT
 All students review the online resources for: MSK history Shoulder examination
Watch videos / live role play and  give feedback eg. headache history, abbreviated mental test
MSK history General JOINT exam  Shoulder examination
 
 WEEK 6
2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or willing to perform live role play of MSK history or shoulder examination
All students review the online resources for: Hip examination Knee examination
 Watch videos / live role play and  give feedback eg. MSK history, shoulder examination
 Hip Examination Knee Examination
 
WEEK 7
 2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or be willing to perform live role play of hip or knee examinations
 All students review the online resources for: Motor Examination
Watch videos / live role play and give feedback eg. hip examination, knee examination
 Motor Examination – Tone, Power, coordination, reflexes  (Students should have tendon hammers)
 
 
WEEK 8
 1 or 2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or willing to perform live role play involving the motor examination
 All students review the online resources for: Gynae history
Watch videos / live role play and give  feedback on motor examinations

1 or 2 students prepare skills: Prepare a video or willing to perform live role play of gynae history
All students review online resources for: Thyroid history Thyroid gland and status examination
