  1. Basics of Classroom Management Excerpts from: The Classroom Management Secret Date: 3:30-5:30pm

  2. Objectives I will be exposed to the importance of having classroom management techniques and strategies that I can incorporate into my classroom. I will produce a classroom management plan with rules and procedures for the remainder of the school year.

  3. Group Norms Be an active participant! Be a respectful listener/speaker Limit Side Conversations Be present Have Fun!

  4. Inclusion Activity Introduce yourself with the following information: 1) State Your Name 2) School Site/Grade/Subject Level 3) Number of Years Teaching 4) ***On a Post-It: Name one classroom management strategy that has been working in your classroom during the first month of school. After introducing yourself, please put the post-it on the chart paper!

  5. The Classroom Management Secret Book by Michael Linsin 46 Strategies for a Well-behaved Class Book goes in order from beginning of the school year until the last day of school Can anyone guess what the ultimate classroom management secret is???

  7. Some topics of interest on the first day of school ***Biggest mistake is not being consistent with rules and procedures on the first day of school! 7 Things to Do on the first day of school 1) Smile 2) A Peaceful Pace 3) A routine 4) A story 5) A Plan 6) A lesson 7) A little fun

  9. Practice Turn these negative rules into more positive versions 1. Don t speak unless called upon. 2. No food, gum, water 3. Never kick, hit, or punch someone. 4. Don t make fun of other students. ***At your table, please change the wording of these rules to make them more Positive for your students!

  12. Table Talk Discuss at your tables any additional basic rules/consequences that are important to your classroom Be ready to share out 1 of each at your table!

  13. How Do I Teach My Classroom Management Plan? Be Clear/Thorough Be Passionate Be Dynamic (Model for them what to do) Be Contrarian (Model what NOT to do) Be Interactive Be skeptical *** (Have them prove they know what to do!)

  14. How Long Should It Take? For elementary students An hour everyday for the first week of school Then, over the next few weeks, sporadically ***Make this important!

  15. A Classroom Management Technique that Top Teachers Use! The way students line up A line of students can indicate 1) How much they respect the teacher! 2) How much they respect each other! 3) How well they follow directions! 4) How ready they are to receive instruction! 5) The amount of time spent on or off task in the classroom.

  16. Table talk What s the best location for teachers to be when lining up their students? Discuss with your table groups and be prepared to share out your thoughts!
