Circles of Engagement: Planning for Inclusion Chabot College s Guided Pathways team gathered members of their college community to work on their GP strategic plan during summer 2019 Process Outcome: Ensure inclusion in engagement and belonging once engaged with intentional reflection before action (praxis) to dismantle systemic and institutional oppression by including those too-often othered With the support of Center For Strategic Facilitation, Chabot s team worked with their tool called Circles of Engagement to understand: Who needed to be engaged? What level folks needed to be engaged? What form(s) engagement would take?

  2. Circles of Engagement: Who? What? How? Who needed to be engaged? For ease, Chabot considered by role/position: Students/Not Yet Students Faculty Staff District, IT, Facilities, Trustees Community, Employers/Industry Intersegmental partners What level folks needed to be engaged? Inform Feedback Co-design What form(s) engagement would take? With respect for time and bandwidth, Chabot considered both existing opportunities as well as new means. Inform Feedbac k Co- Design

  3. Circles of Engagement (Post-it Free*) Instructions Identifyone of the academic pathways you will work on for REACH. Type the action at the top of the slide after the words Circle of Engagement (for example Circle of Engagement for Transportation & Logistics). In the first column, edit the community member categories to better fit your pathway and partners (for example, list a specific employer or workforce development agency instead of Workforce Partners and spell out specific student types). Add additional rows, as needed. In the second column, specify the degree to which you intend to engage each group (inform them about your plans, gather their input and feedback on your plans, or fully engage them as co-designers of your REACH project) In the third column, identify ways you can ensure more inclusive engagement of each group. *Because we can t all be together right now.
